So, I was thinking of ditching all my 15mm Xyston and going into 25mm. The Old Glory look OK, but don't rock my world or anything. Is anyone making outstanding hoplites in 25mm+? I haven't been paying much attention lately, occupying myself with Privateer Press (and like WOW! about those figs
pricey, but very nice) and some of the new GW plastics. I was thinking about doing Pelop'n War and/or Greek/Persian wars. I understand that 15mm is the most popular scale for those, but thought I'd ask. |

Gorgon's Spartans are excellent, and may well be expanded upon: link "I understand that 15mm is the most popular scale for those
" I don't. Allen |

I have both Greeks and Persians at sgmm.biz Only 1.50 US per fig
If you like Plastics, Immortal have some greeks, and I think Wargames Factory is releasing some? |

My Spartans and Athenians in 28 mm are mostly Foundry with some Vendel tossed and I am very happy with them. There are some other lines that were once part of Artizan that were done by the same sculptor that did the Foundry lines but they have been sold off to another company. The Vitrix that Rellik provided in the link above look very promising and will be plastic and therefore cost effective and great looking to boot if you are just getting started in the period. I will be adding the Vitrix to my current collection as one can never have enough Ancient Greeks to wargame with. |

I like the Crusader hoplites. Actually I like most everything Crusader puts out. |

Hmmm, lots of nice figs. I like the idea of the plastics by Vitrix
only problem is they're a 2008 pic and apparently still not released
the schedule has them up for around January: link I've never worked on plastics in historicals, only GW plastics in LARGE 28mm. Their stuff has progressed a lot, and some of the newest ones are mind-bogglingly fabulous. Certainly the medium has come a long way. They're a lot easier to work with in many ways, certainly for posing, kit-bashing and swapping parts they can't be beat. I still like the weight of metal, however
must be old fashioned that way. Still, depending on how Vitrix does their sprues, could be fabulous. I'm impressed by their Napoleonics. |

The best ones I have are the foundry ones. I do like the artizan ones as well. From now on I'll be buying plastics probably but I only have the iimortal ones at this point and I don't think they are as nicely sculpted as the foundry ones. I am looking forward to the victrix ones and I'm sure I'll buy a box of each when they come out. |

HesseCassel – Victrix was founded in 2008, we were told their plastic Hoplites were in the offing late Spring/early Summer this year with a release date of around now. The release date subsequently slipped only a couple of months not a couple of years. |

Have a look at Immortal. He has Classical Hopilites out this week. I have painted 2 boxes so far of the Ancient set. They paint up very well and quickly. He will be expanding the range as well. Much cheaper than Foundry and Gorgan. Go to Warlord's site and have a look at their deals, with free shipping and no VAT for those outside the Uk. |

Slightly off topic but here goes. What do you use to prime 28mm plastics. I mainly work in 15mm metal and use Humbrol Matt White enamel. I don't want to get into the black v white debate but am interested in whether the matt enamel will be OK on 28mm plastic; have any of you used it and had problems? |
mydogbarks | 31 Oct 2010 5:34 a.m. PST |
For my Immortal hoplites I used grey automative primer from Canadian Tire. Otherwise for plastics Walmarts flat black. |

Dear ashill, Humbrol Matt Enamel will work fine on plastics. I uesd to this but changed to spays a few years ago. I prime platics with GW spray primer – nearly always Chaos Black. Here is a painting guide for Gorgon Spartans PDF link Mick |

The metal Hoplites from Immortal are very nice. Realistic proportions, especially the weapons. Be forewarend though, they are multi part metal, a body two separate arms and separate head, and are a bitch to assemble. |

The core of my Spartan army are "Gorgons" elevated crests and under arm poses. The rest of my Hoplites are also Steve's figures from his Foundry days! Do like those links Mike/Mick gave us also. |

Thanks to all who responded. Mick in Switzerland, your link is very useful. Another example of how the TMP community helps get stuff sorted. |

About 90% of my ancient Greeks miniatures (around 500) are Foundry, so yes, I think these are the best around. They never were cheap, but recent prices are, well eh, high. |
