For anyone who's interested in the relative sizes of some of Rebels tanks compared to Khuarasan's massive new Siler heavy tank: link The Rebel Merka is what I'd call a fairly average-sized MBT, comparable to similar figs from Old Crow and GZG. The Siler is – well, you can see how big it is. Both of them are sculpted with similar enough styles that a uniform paint job makes them look like good stablemates, at least IMO. |

Thanks for the pic Jeff. I like how the Rebel tank gives the impression of a light recce tank next to Khurasan's MBT. I would'nt put much hope in primitive RPG 7s. Or as you point out the Rebel can be a MBT with Khurasan's a super-heavy. The beauty of SciFi-around the same size works fine |

Love the looks of the Siler with the Merka. The tan color also works very well. I think the Siler and Merka are hands down the best near future tanks on the current market. Old Crow and Combat Wombat both have a few good choices for near future, but the familiar characteristics of the Siler and Merka to current tanks just give them a perfect fell. As I said when the first Siler pictures came out it looks like the over grown love child of an US M1 Abrams and a German Leopard. A combination I very much like. Once I get my tanks, maybe I will do a size comparison with some of the other companies like Old Crow, Combat Wombat, Rebel, Critical Mass, DLD and others. I love the large size since my personal opinion is that many of the tanks other are putting out are far too small next to the infantry. Looking forward to more monster like this from Khurasan. Jeff |

That's a cool comparison BWS and I'm looking forward to yours too, Jeff. When Jellina starts seriously losing the battle for Sepulveda 7 she unleashes one of her aces in the hole, the Conqueror cybertank. It's basically similar to a Bolo. My intention is to make that decently big. . It's just a concept though, no work's been done yet. Also the Maggotons get their Harvester too, which will be bigger than the dictator
if it ever gets made! |
JRacel | 30 Oct 2010 9:46 a.m. PST |
bigger than the dictator That sounds very expensive. Not sure if you can afford to produce that Jon and worried if I could afford to buy it! The bolo type tank sounds interesting, but personally I would like to see some more near future tanks like the Siler. We need some Russians/Chinese/Islamic Federation forces for opposition forces to your Federal Army. I think the Rebel Titan Marines and Earth Force lines, along with the Khurasan human lines will make for some very nice near future forces for Tomorrow's War games. Forgot to mention that I like the way Battle Works Studios painted his Titan Marines. They feel very similar to the ones I did for Rebel Mike. Battle Works Studios, are the tanks and Titan Marines finding their way to Ebay? Jeff |

Forgot to mention that I like the way Battle Works Studios painted his Titan Marines. They feel very similar to the ones I did for Rebel Mike. Quite deliberately patterned on yours, yes, although with darker undersuits rather than light ones. Your color scheme was too good to pass on, and I had already done the Siler for the catalog photos so I was looking for something that would match. Battle Works Studios, are the tanks and Titan Marines finding their way to Ebay? Yep, probably next Monday – I don't like having auctions start/close on the weekend, and I thought I'd let everyone get back from Fall In. :) |

Well Jeff, it's not one or the other! Because I plan to make opposing force NF stuff too, for my Nova Respublik range planned for 2011. And the Karks will be getting WWWII type vehicles as well. |
ThorLongus | 30 Oct 2010 4:01 p.m. PST |
scifi hanomag for kkarks??? |
JRacel | 30 Oct 2010 4:35 p.m. PST |
Well Jeff, it's not one or the other! grin Very true! I've seen the Kark vehicle that looks like a Half-track and was very happy. While Karks are not my thing, I have some SciFi Germans that need some fitting transport. I am also excited to hear about your Nova Republik range next year. If it is anything like the Federal Army, I will be very happy. Jeff |

I'm hoping to have the same talented people involved in making the Nova Respublik range, but time will tell

Good link. Thanks for posting. Those Rebel Tanks are going to work for my Near Future Poles. |

I wonder what size cannon the Siler has? You know things are boring at work when one sits there and ponders what the fuel is for this beast, what size the gun is, how well the auto loader works and what active defense systems it has. The joys of scifi is it can have what ever you want it to have. |
Battle Works Studios | 31 Oct 2010 5:30 a.m. PST |
Bore size is probably less relevant to a plasma cannon than power input, right? |
khurasanminiatures | 31 Oct 2010 8:32 a.m. PST |
The thing that is in the centre of the barrel is meant to be a plasma relay, but it if course can also be an evacuator, so it's really up to the gamer to decide what he wants it to be. |

Is there any chance that someone could show that big Khurasan tank next to a standard 28mm miniature for me? I am thinking that I could possibly use it as a light tank in my Grymn army and would really like to see how it measures up. |
Battle Works Studios | 31 Oct 2010 12:35 p.m. PST |
Is there any chance that someone could show that big Khurasan tank next to a standard 28mm miniature for me? Yes. Here: link It would certainly work as a 20mm vehicle, with perhaps a little surgery on the hatches. 28mm might be stretching it, although the Grymn are pretty small. |
Insomniac | 31 Oct 2010 12:42 p.m. PST |
Thanks BWS
I reckon you are right. 20mm wouldn't be too much of a stretch but for Grymn it is probably too small
but you have given me food for thought
|
Battle Works Studios | 31 Oct 2010 1:03 p.m. PST |
The old Kryomek tanks are still available from Scotia-Grendel. They were awfully puny for 28mm human-sized troops, but they'd work fine with Grymn. I've seen them as armor for quite a few Squat armies over the years too. :) |

I am using it as a near future vehicle, so no plasma or laser weapons yet. The size of the cannon means there will be an autoloader, which will slow the firing, but it will make a good dual anti-tank/ anti-structure weapon. I see it more as an urban assualt vehicle with the increase in urbanization around the world. Basing this on the use of 8 inch and 155 mm self propelled guns in WWII to clear bunkers and fortifications around Metz with direct fire. You have a bunker problem, no problem after this beast fires at it. I guess I will need to pick up some M1s to compare bore size with. Since it will be near future and the M1 looks like it will soldier on for another 30 years in upgraded form. The M1 will be my MBT. |
khurasanminiatures | 31 Oct 2010 3:49 p.m. PST |
I think the vehicle is about 20% longer and about 30-40% wider than an M1A2. The cannon has a substantially wider bore. In fact, I suspect think it's basically the size of a WWII German battlecruiser's gun! So as you say, in a game in which M1s are still in the field, the Siler (or whatever you end up calling it) is definitely the superheavy, sort of the Tiger II to the M1's Panther. It was designed that way so that a platoon of them would have a chance of doing some real damage to a Dictator, the colossal battle mech of the Mekanoids. |

"In fact, I suspect think it's basically the size of a WWII German battlecruiser's gun!" Like this: link |
khurasanminiatures | 31 Oct 2010 6:53 p.m. PST |
It's not nearly that big though! I would like to make a giant cybertank that is that big though. Time will tell. |
(Major Disaster) | 31 Oct 2010 6:55 p.m. PST |
Well, if you have a set of calipers handy, to measure the model's barrel diameter, and a metric conversion table as well, a quick bit of mathematical calculation should yield a close approximation. Eyeballing it from the photo, I'd guess the main gun's bore could be (roughly) 254mm/10in. Spartan 117 |

Hmm, 10in. is a nice number. That is what it will be. Now if I could find some one who makes current MBTs. Turkey is building a new tank, India is using T-90s and a homebuilt version. The Leopard 3 is in the works as is an M1A3. Several countries are now using their main tank hulls to build heavy APCs, like Israil and Russia. The Russians have modified the T-72 to use as an urban assualt vehicle to support tanks in urban combat, the thing mounts 2 autocannons, several machineguns and ATM. It would be sweet to see a NF MBT and heavy APC built from the same hull. |
tberry7403 | 02 Nov 2010 4:00 a.m. PST |
Now why would you need an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) on a tank? |
Battle Works Studios | 02 Nov 2010 7:50 a.m. PST |
Urban camo, obviously. That and a Starbucks sign and you can blend into any cityscape seamlessly. |
doug redshirt | 02 Nov 2010 9:55 a.m. PST |
Actually I am thinking about doing a Siler in the digital urban cammo. Cant get any easier then painting squares and rectangles. |
