Hi Again Gents,

I apologize for monopolizing the board with one post on the heels of another, however I'm off from work today and very close to pulling my hair out of my head.

In regard to the color guard/fanion guard:

"…every infantry regiment had only one Eagle. It was carried by an eagle-bearer (officer) and guarded by 2 guards (sergeants)…and 6 furiers (drawn from companies).."

Now, as I understand the 2 sergeants were the 2eme & 3eme Porte-Aigle, and carried halberds, but the 2nd and 3rd rank were composed of the 'furiers'.

Were the furiers uniformed as the sergeants? Short sword, double cross-belts, etc..? And did they carry arms on the right as the sergeants, or on the left as the rank and file did?

As my epoxy is drying out as I type this I'd be greatly indebted to any help.

Cheers,
Bob

I don't know if 2nd and 3rd Porte-Aigle exist in Guard.

The "caporal-fourrier" were considered like NCO. Look this plate for more informations :

Fourriers were classed as NCOs and would carry their muskets as NCOs (low at the right side of the body, the right hand at about the height of the lock – the forefinger and the thumb around the trigger guard (that is when the soldiers had shouldered arms as well)
And yes – crossbelts

when the rank and file had l'arme au bras, the NCOs would do the same.
