Well, I've now painted enough of my 6mm imagi-nation to have something to talk about on a blog. What I'd quite like to know, though, is what do people want from a blog about an imagi-nation? I had considered putting articles on all manner of topics- history, geography, customs, laws, peerage, etc- but I'm wondering if that would be something people were interested in. So, what would you like to see? |

the articles you mentioned are good as the background lets people know what the nation is about and draws them in. also: plenty of news reports (Pre game information and background and After Action Reviews). As it appears your's in 18th C, then maybe newspaper reports. When making mine I was considering adding modelling and painting to it, but I thought it would detract from the flow of 'news', so to this end I considered a second blog for the showcasing of models and minis, and keep the actual events of the imagination on the main blog. |

More AAR's with the political implications that result. |

Very few of these "imagi-nations" blogs actually feature pictures of painted armies or pix of battles. Focusing on that aspect might make your blog stand out from the rest. That said, a blog should reflect what you are interested in and not what you think that others want. At the end of the day, if you are not that interested in your subject then you will lose interest in it and not post very often. This seems to be the fate of most wargzme related blogs. |

Pictures of painted armies are always good! But some fluff would be good too. I wouldn't go overboard with it, but putting in things like a historybof the nation would be good as long as it is light hearted. I'd say a little less AJP Taylor and a little more The Grand Duchy of Fenwick. Also, while you may not need a painting guide, talking about what inspired you to select the minis/paint schemes you settled on could be interesting. But the main bit of advice I'd give is make your blog easy to read and follow visually. Don't make it too dense, don't centre the text and left justify it, don't have confusing background images because these can make it harder to read on smaller screens. Cheers, Ace |

A good campaign system would be appreciated. We all have our favorite figure scales and battle rules but
how to put a campaign together? |

I would prefer lots of piccies with a brief description of what it is and how significant. AARs with a brief overview of each unit, name and commander maybe and the reason for the battle. Keep it visual for me. |

All the topics you mentioned are what make the unique character, the originality of an imagi-nation. For me I also really enjoy 'regimental profiles' link link spies / counterspies and (picaresque) individual adventures link link Eye-candy -finished units and illustrations of battle reports- is always appreciated. For some of us wargaming is just an excuse to design an imagi-nation (and / or designing original uniforms and flags), then writing down the history of their country since the Late Roman ages, &/or having it 'to live', &/or follow the 'Pulp' adventures of a few characters / unfolding of Court plots; you may wind out your irritation about current political events in 'The Real World™' by depicting them in a satirical way, Voltaire-fashion, in your 'alternate' 18th C. On the opposite an imagi-nation can be no more than a convenient setting for a wargaming campaign, or merely a series of enjoyable, spectacular battles -or even to paint a lot of minis or to model lovely buildings and vignette backgrounds. But as DAF wrote your blog should reflect what you are interested in and not what you think that others want: post what *you* enjoy to post and we'll share the enjoyment! Hope you'll join the 'Emperor vs Elector' merry brotherhood. Please keep us informed! |

I agree with Fritz – the Imagi-nations blogs are great for details, but short on battles (especially battle photos) |

Yeah
but hang on their fella's
.you wouldn't want them to mess up those nice uniforms and get their muskets dirty would you???? Of course not, which is why all civilised armies point their muskets at the enemy and shout "bang!". That's why grenadiers are the biggest, they can shout the loudest. Thanks for all of the suggestions, I just need to do some photography and then I'll be ready. |
