Just joined thanks to this post. Have had a long term interest in SYW and AWI. With the release of FOG Renaissance, I have had increased interest in late 17th and early 18th century such as the WSS period. The beauty of doing say Louis XIV is that I can play FOG R and other rules sets with the same figures (assuming basing compatibility. @ColCampbell, do you have the link to the SYW list? Chris |

Yes, also of the SYW group groups.yahoo.com/group/syw and the Old School Wargaming one link (all periods, but the influence of Young's 'Charge!' and Grant's 'The War Game' is strong). |

yes, but I find it very hard to find subject or follow discussions, so I recive them on email. I think the days of the yahoo forum style is numbered, a left over from the ninety's I think a PHP forum would be better idea for a 7YW forum, then you can post pics into the actual posts of finished figures, and easily navigate new and older posts. my two cents cheers Matt |

Yes and also many other similar groups. These groups are a lot superior to here as you can have a real discussion & generally there are more experts on them. I would recommned them and Lace Wars (and SYW) are 2 good ones. |

Yahoo groups are indeed excellent for exchange of highly specialized information, learned discussion and posting relevant 'flashnews'. At least such is the case for the few I know and frequent. Another *theoretical* advantage over the TMP forums is the possibilty to post photos -bu the illustrations are low-resolution, separated from the text and practically without caption: totally reader-unfriendly and inappropriate for posting topics such as battle reports or modelling tutorials. Typical 'forums' are more suitable since illos can be inserted in the text. Yet the photos cannot be enlarged (afaik), the 'search archive' is utility poor and, if the forum is popular, any info is soon buried under layers and layers of new posts. So, for posting *personal* efforts -specialized historical research, designing an OOB (a whole army with its uniforms and flags, if imaginary), sharing modelling or painting efforts, posting battle and campaign reports
nothing equals a (well-labelled / tagged) blog |

I agree with abdul, but would also like to add that if one wanted to post a battle report with pictures or similar to a yahoogroup, one way to do it might be to compose it and then convert it to PDF and post it in the files. Making PDFs is getting easier these days. I believe there are a number of free software (such as Doro) that will allow you to "Print to PDF" – basically, you press print but select the PDF writer instead of your normal printer. I was wondering why there was such an influx of new members on Lace Wars, but now I know! Welcome Aboard, Gentlemen! Regards, Howard Fielding List Owner – Moderator |

Yes to SYW and Age of Reason, but I quit the Lace Wars group many, many years ago because of individuals discussing current events. Nothing against you or the group in general, Howard, but I had better ways to get [upset] than at a hobby site meant to take the edge off 'real life'. Addendum: I don't want to discourage anyone from joining as maybe there's less or none of it today, and it wasn't overpowering even back then, but even two or three times was too much for me. |
Der Alte Fritz | 24 Oct 2010 6:47 p.m. PST |
Yes. Oddly enough though, at work, the internet filter will not let me access The Lace Wars yahoo group (probably due to the word "Lace") which it blocks, but I can access most other yahoo discussion groups. |
