Hi, is RAFM the only manufacturer of 28-mm Canal/City Martians from their old SPACE: 1889 range?

I'm interested in VSF miniature gaming (specifically "The Red Sands of Mars" TS&TF variant). But I didn't know what Martians were available in 28-mm. I've been told about Parroom Station Miniatures, but I don't know what size they are. I've owned the old SPACE: 1889 Martians and British and have a good idea about figure compatibility with my 30-mm Redoubt 1882 British infantry and cavalry.

Are the Parroom Station figures 28-mm figures like RAFM's SPACE: 1889 range? Or are the figures true 25-mm scale (like Ral Partha's old colonial figure range)? And what type old brass cannon be usable for 28-mm Martians? Does Old Glory make any Ottoman Turk muzzle loaders that might look suitably "alien"?

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Blake

There is a request with Wargames Factory's L&L ( link ) , add a few more sprues to order and it may come to pass…….

When I submitted it I did specify that they could be used for historical or adventure gaming as well, as generic tribesmen. That idea came from seeing someone use ancient egyptians as martians, and they looked very good, I thought.

I'm not aware of any other ranges other than what you have mentioned; don't own Parroom so can't comment on them.

Blake,
I've got a few of the Parroom Station figures. Their humans are 28mm, just a bit taller and slimmer than the Soldiers of the Queen from the RAFM Space 1889 line. I'd probably put the RAFM and Parroom Station figures in separate units, but happily use them on the same table. While I have some RAFM Martians--somewhere--I don't have any Parroom Station Martians, so can't help you there. I don't have any of the Redoubt 1882 figures, but I do have some of their Boxer Rebellion figures, if a comparison with them would be of any help.

Richard Houston designed a line of artillery for Space 1889. I think these were manufactured by the London War Room after Richard retired. I'm not sure who sells them now.

I am rather taken by Iceaxe's idea of using Ancient Egyptians as Martians, particularly since the multipart plastic figures might allow you to buy a set of Martian heads to go on the Egyptian bodies.

The Parroom Station Martians mix faiely well with the RAFM ones. They a a bit thinner but about the same Height.

Move the games to Venus, re-paint all your Zulus greenish, and add some lizard-men. grin

Problem solved! evil grin

Gracias,

Glenn

Edit: Hope I didn't cause a heart attack or stroke with that suggestion Blake!

Yes, Don Cox suggested that…LOL. I'd rather hack off my limbs than have to repaint 380 Zulus again.

Then again, Don told me besides the 100 Martians he owns, he has just over SEVEN HUNDRED of the RAFM lizard guys for Venus (all unpainted of course, just like a lot of his British Colonial stuff). I guess that's why we wind up playing my stuff (since it's mainly painted).

Anyway, I'm taking a break from painting an unit of Boer infantry (and slowly losing my mind with all the different shades of browns, tans, buffs, greens, blacks, and blues to keep track of)…

Maybe Don should just say that the unpainted figures are the natural skin color of the lizardmen!

Gracias,

Glenn

The Parroom Station Miniatures are available here. The sizes are as described by another poster above.

Thank to all for the info concerning the Parroom Station Martians.

Glenn, I'll eventually get around buying lots of Martians for "The Red Sands of Mars" – TS&TF variant. However, it's just a matter of when. If I want to game VSF, then I've have to buy and paint mine own Martians. It'll take Don another five years to getting around to basing all his Martians (let alone painting them or his Venusians).

Well, I suspect Don is in better health than I am so that may come to pass. evil grin But before I retire and move to New Mexico is the question.

Gracias,

Glenn
