The figures are 15mm The vehicles are from GZG The buildings are OOP from GZG The shuttles are models from Space 1999 they are Hawks, I bought from a convention, probably should be re-painted. Craters are from GW. Small craters are brought from a local convention. Any ideas on how to make it look more moon like? I tried to give the craters a strong highlight, to mimic the harshness of the sunlight on the moon. Any comments and suggests are welcome. link |

I'd get a black ground cloth and lightly spray it with dark grey to try and match your craters better. The color difference between the ground cloth and craters would be my only critique. Other wise looking really good. |

Inari7, that is amazing!!! I hope mine turns out half as nice. Thanks for posting those awesome photos. Dan |

Very nice, only one question, is it your Evil Moon Base! |

Cool, the minis remind me of some old Ral Partha game I have on the shelf. |

I love the paint jobs on the minis, and the different colors for the various infantry factions. The GZG buggies really look the part for Moon mobiles. I agree, a sheet, or canvas surface to better match the craters would be useful. You could add an Eagle, or two, assuming you can find one for a reasonably price. If not, go with an extended-range Space Shuttle model. Thanks for sharing. |

I have, after reading Rebel Moon, and watching UFO, Space 1999, and the two sides during the Cold War. The West vs. the Commies, vying to hold the new high ground, which is the Moon. Sorry, can't be bothered that the Moon is probably a bit too distant to be of practical use in supporting the Earth-bound forces. |

Very nice. Very nice indeed. You need a space railway/monorail. And a dome, always got to have a dome on your moonbase. That's why Space1999 failed you know, the base didn't have a dome. |

Get a groundcloth that matches your craters and you have a great moonscape. |

NICE!! I was pondering doing much the same when I have money. I'm rather taken by the chaps in orange space suits. I'll repeat the ground cloth comments and I'd add some domes.
I was wondering about one of those plastic balls for hamsters to roll about in being used to make a biosphere. |

orange space suit guys are from GZG heavy vac suit troops, they are a little larger then the other figures I have. |

"No my moon base is just for scientific purposes only." Isn't that what some people claim to be doing with whales? Dan |

Take a look at my moon base it's the only one I got. Not much of a moon base I never get out a lot. First thing I thought of when I read the title and apologies to Supertramp and everyone else who read it. Love the painting of the spacesuits, what orange did you use? |
Inari7 | 03 Sep 2010 5:01 p.m. PST |
The Orange is Apple Barrel Harvest Orange, black washed, and Neon Orange dry brushed on top. The Neon Orange made the figures pop. |

Looks great so far. As everybody else has said, all you really need is a cloth painted or flocked to match the craters and you're there. |

Dropzonetoe, that's exactly what popped into my head when I read the title. I still have that record album, too! |

Where did you get the Mark IX Hawks from? |

Hawks from a local convention. |

Here's one I did a while back. The dark ground cloth makes a lot of difference, although my paint jobs are merely adequate. link |

Really like the fellas in orange. The rest is awesome as well. |
Mehoy Nehoy | 06 Sep 2010 6:25 p.m. PST |
Good stuff! I never really saw the potential of those particular GZG vehicles until now. It has me fingering the credit card again
As an alternative to a ground cloth, you could use some vinyl floor tiles, spread plaster over them and paint them to match the craters you already have. The end result will look very much like the craters and you can stack up the tiles again for storage. |

Looks great Doug – plus the pics of your collection make me jealous – too much of it is painted! ;-p |
Static Tyrant | 18 Sep 2010 8:10 a.m. PST |
Rather than try to paint-on the harsh sunlight/shadow effects in the craters, I think you'd have more luck bringing a lamp down to near-table-height and casting its light across the table surface. This way the figures and vehicles etc. will also cast long, dark shadows. That and the groundcloth suggestion are just the finishing touches – you've got the majority of the work out of the way, and it's looking good so far! |
