ok, I am a scientist and use SEM daily. SEM cannot display/transmit colour. These have been coloured in by photoshop after the event. These creatures may even be optically transparent and still produce these images. So, basically, the telegraph is reporting false information. Who'd have thought. |

Yeah, they do look good. I just wish they'd have said "SEM images that have been coloured in". They way they reference in the article implies that we are looking at an optical truth. |

Each caption clearly denotes "coloured SEM image", meaning after the fact, as opposed to color image. Discover did the same thing about 15 years ago, the color was added as a sort of map legend for non-entomologists (bug, background, eyes, etc.). |
