I cannot find any guidelines in the rules for how the bases of Warbands varies from those of formed units. Yet the photos clearly show larger bases with more space around the Warband figures. I am thinking about simply increasing the size of my regular bases by 150% but still using four figures per base. Has anyone come up with a good solution? My reading on the Victorian colonial period leads me to believe that Afghan tribesmen and Sudanese natives employed a looser fomation than some rules call for. Therefore, as a target, what they lose in depth they gain in density. Or is it the other way around? Therefore the BP rules do not penalize Warbands as targets for artillery. Thanks! |

Mine are based the same as my Imperial troops. Just not in neat lines. For BP it doesn't really matter. |

Whenever I do get around to rebasing my native types for BP,I was going to use the same size base, just 3 figs though,so it shows a looser formation. |

Ive been debating the basing issue myself. I was thinking of either fielding them on 50mm bases in a line of 3, or 50mm bases 2x2. Not sure what makes most sense. My regular infantry in line have a frontage of 240mm, so I am thinking that the first option seems better, otherwise warbands will easily be able to 'double team' units in line. |

Here's my plan – it will be a few weeks before the figures are here to test it. I use 10mm figures. My regular units are on 30mm square bases, 3 to a unit, each with 8 figures in well ordered lines. My plan for warband is to use 3 bases of 30mm frontage and 40mm depth, with about 30 figures (the pack size for most Pendraken infantry, oddly enough) distributed between the 3. I plan to cluster the figures a bit more toward the centre base with the CO and flag, and to have most toward the center of base back to front with a few faster runners ahead, slower behind, etc. Should make a nice "charging mob" micro-diorama. That's infantry, but the horse will be similar. |

The photos show larger bases because that was how the figures they had are based. There are no special Base Size rules for Warband – just the rules that affect how they form up etc. Black Powder very specifically does not give a toss how your figures are based – just how the Unit is formed. No, BP doesn't make Warband an easier target for Artillery – feel free to add a rule – +1 to hit Warband with Artillery. Pat |
