Hello fellow 15mm RPG & Skirmish Gamers.

To follow up on my Characters & Monsters posting of last week, I would like your input on The Characters.
Specifically "Classes" you want produced.

Here is little preview of what I am working on for Series 1.
picture
Pictured LtoR are:
TECH CLAN:Fighter – TRADE CLAN:Trader – BROTHERHOOD OF IRON:War Priest – MUTANTS:Kylynxx(Rouge), Huratt(Path Finder, Fighter), Sectoid (Fighter, Rouge), Glertch (Hunter, Slaver). Note: The girl to his right is a Captive BIONOID TECH.

So this is what I have to start the range.

I would like your input on other types of 13to19mm Character Classes and or Mutants that you would like to see in production.

A note on Availability; I am sending all of these sculptures to Iron Wind in September.

Thank you in advance, for your useful input on this topic.

Joe

Nice! I really like a few of those, and I'm not even a 15mm gamer. I really like the Huratt. Resolve . . . weakening . . .

The checkerboard background is a little distracting, though.

OMalley15 Aug 2010 10:07 a.m. PST

From the looks of it, those are some really well sculpted 15mms!

If you're looking for input on things we'd like to see in production, well… I've been looking around a long time for miniatures to represent the aliens (or something similar) from the Mass Effect Universe.

Battle Miniatures Emporium15 Aug 2010 10:22 a.m. PST

Hello JPattern2

Thank you man, they still need a good bit of work in the coming month.
The dang camera is new to me yet, and this picture was the best I could manage out of a cluster of ten shots.
I did a little diamond pattern on that Roach's pistol grip, but you can barely see it.
Yeah, I like that little Huratt.
Can you see the skull on his necklace?

I just put a notebook up as a quick backdrop, I'll use black cloth from now on.

Hello OMalley

I am trying to match my sculptures with the images in my head, Ha, ha!
Do you have any links, so I can take a look?

Joe

(I make fun of others)15 Aug 2010 10:40 a.m. PST

Well, it's nice to see you post pictures soon after talking about making sculptures. Good luck with them!

OMalley15 Aug 2010 10:54 a.m. PST

Sure thing!

Krogan (no idea how the females of their species look- females are rare to see anyways): picture

Asari (an all female race, with an anatomically human structure, except for the head): picture

Quarian (humanoid as well, with male and female. They rarely take off their masks, so don't worry about what their faces may look like): picture

Turian: picture

I found this half way through my search… picture

Pretty much sums up all the races except the Elkor: picture

And the Batarians: picture

Hello Porfirio Rubirosa

Thank you very much. I have had troubles Bro, in recent years, but all of that is behind me…now.

A note on Availability; I am sending all of these sculptures to Iron Wind in September.

Are you sending them to Iron Wind to cast for you for sale by you, or will Iron Wind be selling them? It would be interesting to see IW get into the 15mm sci fi game!

Battle Miniatures Emporium15 Aug 2010 11:44 a.m. PST

Hello OMalley

I am already doing something like the "Hanar" and the"Volus"…and to prove it, here are early WIPs of the Hanar'ish thing I am calling a "Land Slug".
link
And here is the Volus'ish Fellow.
link
Not much to see…yet, but every sculpture starts out as a metal stick figure and/or a blob of putty.

I have all of your posted images saved, and I will give them serious consideration in the months to come.

I will not copy these concepts, but some "Homages" may be fun to sculpt.

Thank you for participating in this topic, like a champ!

Hello BigK

Mike is doing my Molding/Casting…it's a done deal, starting in September.

ordinarybass15 Aug 2010 8:57 p.m. PST

I'm kind of an addict for the 40k vibe and that brotherhood of iron is brilliant. One of the sharpest 15mm sculpts I've seen in quite a while!

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this line.

Battle Miniatures Emporium16 Aug 2010 5:15 a.m. PST

Hello Ordinarybass

The fact that I grew up with D&D, RIFTS, 40K and other popular miniatures and RPG games has a trickle down effect.

Now sometimes it is my intent to pay homage to a certain monster or whatever. For example, that little fellow I call a "Glertch" is obviously a crazy Goblinoid, as I intended.

The other side is more akin to a "Happy Accident".
When I was almost done with the face on the War Priest, and I took a step back from it and thought about it, I was smiling as the thought came that I had just sculpted a face right out of "Rouge Trader".
Oops.
When I started to do the face, all I wanted to achieve was getting a crisp eye piece and targeter, and an interesting look for the respirator…lol.
grin

Thank you for your encouraging response.

Joe

OMalley16 Aug 2010 9:33 a.m. PST

As long as long as I was able to dole out some inspiration, then I'm happy to have helped!

Battle Miniatures Emporium16 Aug 2010 9:54 a.m. PST

You did OMalley.

rvandusen16 Aug 2010 2:30 p.m. PST

ThorLongus16 Aug 2010 2:36 p.m. PST

never looking back to 28mm

speaking of ironwind, wish someone would do some 15 versions of those old great 25mm kurita and steiner battletroop models- maybe they would allow you to do so
btw- the is someone on shapeways selling pretty nice 28mm krogans
what about the race ofbad guys in masseffect(geth?), forgot theirname
but they ranimated recently dead troops
oh, and more boobies- not enuff n 15mm

Battle Miniatures Emporium16 Aug 2010 3:28 p.m. PST

Hello Rvandusen

Thank you for your comment, and encouragement.

Hello Mr.Crawford

I am on good terms with Mike Noe, and I am going to ask him about doing some "Classic IWM's" figures in 15mm, next year.

For the time being I am working on my own concepts, and those of a few friends.

Females that LOOK LIKE WOMEN, has been a pet peeve of mine in 15mm for many years…lol.
BTW; I have your Blog in my links, and when I start my own Blog I will be checking in on you often.
Keep painting sir.

Little Big Wars16 Aug 2010 6:14 p.m. PST

I would really like to see some sort of 10-12 foot Power Armour pilot with a shoulder-mounted cannon akin to a Glitter Boy or Sol Tekkaman 1. PAs as a whole are fairly underrepresented in 15mm, and most fall into the same diminutive vein as the GZG ones. Khurasan's PAs are a notable exception to this.

Battle Miniatures Emporium16 Aug 2010 10:12 p.m. PST

Rifts is a great game.

Battle Miniatures Emporium11 Nov 2010 11:12 a.m. PST

Hi Astranagant
I am working on my Kainards (Not Kobolds)this month and have been thinking on what sort of thing to give them for Heavy Support.
I'm thinking "Glitter-Dog"…lol.

Farstar got me thinking about an Exo-Suite concept…and I think a BIG gun set to 1 shoulder is the way to go.

You like?

(I make fun of others)12 Nov 2010 10:34 a.m. PST

So it's been three months since you said you sent them off to be cast, BME. Can we see the figurines now? When will they be available for sale?

Little Big Wars12 Nov 2010 12:17 p.m. PST

If I see a big PA with an offset shoulder gun you can bet I'm gonna pick it up. At the moment GZGs 25mm NAC PA with Railgun is the only game in town for that.

Battle Miniatures Emporium12 Nov 2010 1:33 p.m. PST

Hello porfirio rubirosa

Well, see I am working on 60 miniatures right now, all at once.

I was doing 20 or so a few months ago…lol.

I had to think REAL Hard about what I was really getting done.
I came to the conclusion that I would ultimately end up with a very small starting range, and people would be faced with paying shipping for no more than 3 to 6 packs, assuming that anyone would even want to own the complete initial range.

I have decided to wait and work to get more done.
My goal is to have 1 PLAYABLE force of Good, Bad, and Neutral Factions DONE before I open up (and start paying for) a Website.

What I am doing now is sculpting Master Figures and Weapons.
These will be molded, and then the Master Castings will be reposed and redetailed to make complete packs for at least 3 Playable Factions.
I am working most days on this, and when it is done and I AM HAPPY with it all…THEN it will be made available for sale.

I will post Previews here…and I am thinking of starting up a Blog, for regular weekly ramblings, sort of like Mark's DSHorizon.

Battle Miniatures Emporium12 Nov 2010 2:06 p.m. PST

Hey Astranagant
Is this the guy?
picture

(I make fun of others)12 Nov 2010 2:08 p.m. PST

I will post Previews here…

Why not now? What happened to the first batch you'd said you sent off to Iron Wind? Surely they are cast by now. Can we see the castings as a preview, even if you are holding them for release with these other models?

Or are you Black Autumning us again?

Little Big Wars12 Nov 2010 2:54 p.m. PST

Hey Astranagant
Is this the guy?
picture

Yup, that's him. Not the best substitute for a Glitter Boy, but as I've said, it's the only game in town.

Battle Miniatures Emporium12 Nov 2010 7:27 p.m. PST

Hey Astranagant
I see what you mean.
That is a nice model, but the gun is…well…less than scary, ain't it.

Lampyridae15 Nov 2010 4:58 a.m. PST

oh, and more boobies- not enuff n 15mm

Hooray for boobies!

Also, female painters/players would be more interested in 15mm if you did nice female character models. I know my fiancee was very interested in the GZG "Free Trader" pack and characters.

Battle Miniatures Emporium15 Nov 2010 8:15 a.m. PST

Hello Lampyridae

I agree completely.
Sexy girls have their place, and miniatures of that type are fun to sculpt and can even be funny…but you need some Playable Female Characters, to fill out a NICE RPG Miniatures Range.

I'm working on both…

(I make fun of others)17 Nov 2010 1:35 p.m. PST

Hey porfirio rubirosa
IN MY TIME.
MY WAY.
MY MONEY.
My EFFORT & LOVE…for the WORK.
It IS The BEST Way.
Lol…THE ONLY WAY.

Or, in other words, you're Black Autumning us again. Yes, I'm making this and that and ten of those, and then the blog mysteriously disappears, nothing that was promised having been delivered, except perhaps a tootsie roll spraypainted white as a "dragon."

Now you're back at it, lots of talk but nothing to show for it.

I praised you for actually posting pictures this time, then I'd suggested in some previous messages that you continue to show that you're on a different track by at least showing some progress on things you are talking up before talking them up. Like for instance, progress on the initial set of models you previewed in the summer. That would be a very good indication that you're on a different course than the one you've been, erm, famous for to date.

Your failure to do so suggests they never went off to Iron Wind like you claimed they would.

Remember, ultimately you're going to be asking people to send you their money, and how likely will they be to do that when it's Big Mean Elf or Black Autumn or Legend and Fiend Productions?

Right, feel free to carry on as before! But if you want customers, I'd suggest that's not an exceptionally terrific plan.

Battle Miniatures Emporium17 Nov 2010 9:22 p.m. PST

I think you might be in love…lol.

I will be happy to explain the name changes, and timeline…since you are asking reasonably and directly rather than eluding to what might be.

Black Autumn Productions; felt like it was a little to close to other Companies, such as Black Tree Design.
The deal breaker for me keeping that name happened when I discovered that BAP also stands for Black America Pageant…Oops.

Legend And Fiend, was to on the Nose.
I am no Fiend nor Legend.

Timeline.
I am working to make the best models I can, and it takes a lot of time for that, also I am doing a full range here, not just a few packs. I spent about $2,000 on my recent move…so I have to do what I can when I can…for the Molding & Casting, like everybody else.

Finally…I am no Dark Elf…never was.
