Nice, thanks for the report. Keep these comming. I would love to do TYW Swedes and Russians. Chris edit: could you also break down how units are built? It looks like the Swedish foot are 6 bases (2 pike and 4 shot). Is there unit scaling? 6-12 bases with 1/3 being pike. Are the Russian foot units from the TYW in similar units? |

Excellent. I always enjoy your battle reports. I might even give FOG Ren a look-see. |

There are 5 army lists linked to the report. Given the lists are only beta lists, afaics most standard pike&shot foot are 6 or 7 bases (2+4 or 3+4), with Tercios and Kiels (ie Swiss!) being bigger. But the proper lists may well differ

I've seen it played, and played it here. It seems to be pretty good. |

Looks promising but the units are just too small for me I want double the bases, I guess it would be easy to just do that. But I will wait to see what the lists and rules look like in a couple of weeks. William |

Its a question of scale and representation and visual effect, so I guess you are free to make double sized bases if you wish – or perhaps use double the number of 10mm figures per "15mm" or "25mm" base? Also mid-era Tercio's have 6 shot & 3 pike, so that's half way there too? However if you double the bases (or base sizes), each foot unit potentially becomes 6 bases wide x 2 deep = 24cm wide
and all of a sudden you won't really have much room on a standard 2m/6' wide table to manoeuvre – and wheeling at 3"/turn may well take all day

Hi Madaxeman Love your site by the way! But as to the unit sizes yes you are correct in what happens if I was to double them, but then perhaps change the MU to 2". That might work but I will wait to see the rules. Right now I am playing a few games of Warlord II by Trevor Halsall and that is really intresting and might just be our choice for the Ren. I will post a review in a week or two, we are having another game on Sunday. William |

Tim, Swiss Toni's military analysis is a thing of beauty. I'm still waiting on my copy of the rules and here's hoping I can say the same about them. How do you feel having now played them a fair few times? Ian |
madaxeman | 16 Sep 2010 2:22 p.m. PST |
really happy with them – the rules seem to somehow work much better for this period than for ancients

madaxeman Can you tell what figures you used in your battles? ta scall |
madaxeman | 22 Sep 2010 10:35 a.m. PST |
I'm afraid not – they are pretty much all 2nd hand figures bought at various times over the last 20 years In fact, if anyne can identify them it would help me round out a few of the units where I now find myself a couple of bases short ! |
