I've started sculpting a mammoth for my 54mm prehistoric tribe to hunt. I'm using Super Sculpey over a foil and wire armature. Columbian mammoth – nice! Needs a bit of publicity beside the woolly variety. Don't show it on any GW forums though, or they'll accuse you of ripping off mamuks
Nice start. The only two things I'll say are: mind the bulk as you build it up. And I'm not so sure about pure GS for the tusks. If you mix it with a hard-curing putty it should be easier to sand the tusks smooth. Could even work by mixing the GS with sculpey and baking as normal, but I'm not sure how well that'd work.
