Need information about the combat of Tharand-Wilsdruff. It seems that on 14th October 1813 the advance guard of the Army of Poland under the Command of the Division of Gral. Bubna was traveling with a huge convoy of provisions (specially ammo and food) for the Army of Bohemia, plus the cannons of the Reserve. That day the convoy suffered a sudden atack by the French Garrison of Dresden which destroyed the covering forces, took 3/4 of the convoy and the rest hardly scape to Tharand. Bubna 2nd Light Division continue his march with the rest of the convoy. I need info about the forces involved in this combat. From the Dresden Garrison and the scort of the convoy. Even the number of transports and cannons. Many thanks in advance for your help. Amicalement Armand |

Cousin Armand, Since Dresden was commanded by Gouvion St. Cyr, I wonder if there is anything in his 'Memoires,' they have been reprinted; his own exploits are described in an histocial context that were well researched for the time and are, at times, even mildly self critical. Sadly, the writers 'voice' he chooses is very formal and they are therefore extremely dull reading which is why I rather gave up in my attempts to find tha necessary passage. For this I am sorry. In addition, I could not locate an on-line copy to post. Best, Elliott |
