I have just got back from Vienna where I managed to pick up some toy soldier 35mm figures. I anyone aware of any other makers in this size? Thanks |

Interesting. I don't know anything about Wollner. Are they current production or antique figures ? The 35mm scale is an odd one. I do have a few small sets of that size, what the Germans call "Bleisoldaten" somewhat toylike and semi-round. The scale can be variable, more or less 35-40mm. Spenkuch was one of the main companies selling figures in that style, toy soldiers and sailors of the Kaiser's empire, figures for the Franco-Prussian war, colonial Africa, flat warships and the like. Berliner Zinnfiguren seems to have possession of the molds now, they sell unpainted sets as well as other figures of the antique toy soldier style on the Flohmarkt (fleamarket) section of their website. Many thanks for the information.Wollner is still made by Kobers (established in the 19th century) an old department store on Vienna. I went to Kobers expecting to have to buy a catalogue but they gave it to me gratis which is astounding for Austria. The range is from the old moulds and is extensive including cavalry, infantry, artillery and personalities plus civilians and circuses. They all come painted. I have an email address which I can forward if you are interested. I have had a look at Berlin Zinnfiguren which is a great shop.I have bought 30mm SYW flats from there for several years and always find them very helpful. Jack |

You're quite welcome, Jack. And thanks in turn for the info on Kobers. I tried the website, "in arbeit" for at least the moment. They don't sell unpainted figures at all then ? Regarding BZ, they do have a comprehensive mail order service and I suppose a great shop to visit while in Berlin. They're pricey though, I only order from them when it's something I can't get elsewhere. Steve |

If anyone is interested in Wollner figures I suggest you purchase a copy of "Wollner History and Catalogue of a Viennese Toy-Soldier Manufacturer" by Robert Lonsing. It is the definitive work on the history/production of Wollner figures. It contains a very large number of color photos of figures. I reviewed a copy of "Wollner" for Old Toy Soldier magazine. For further information go to:www.wollner-zinnfiguren.com or wollner-toysoldiers.com Email is; info@wollner-zinnfiguren.com Regards, Russ |
