Ok folks,
Jage 111 and I have begun work, I've already penned an article, a scenario to be honest, and it's generic enough you can use it with any system.

What do we need from you? If you want to write, we're looking to put the first issue out sometime next month, after that, it'll be every three months to start. So, we need articles! Anything 15mm sci fi or stuff that can be used with 15mm sci fi is welcome. Please send it to me at:

JASONdotWEISERatGMAILdotNET

I'll get it to Jage, unless he's willing to give his email out here.

We'd especially love articles on world building and new backgrounds to game in, or how to adapt that favorite RPG or other game background to your beloved rules set.

We're also taking name submissions for the fanzine, names suggested thus far are:

"Miniature Droptrooper"

Obviously, we need a bit of help here. So, send your ideas about that too either via PM or email as mentioned earlier.

Thanks a bunch guys, and let's see if we can make this a success.

A title? How about:

"Heretical Scale" ;)

"Heretical Scale" ;)

You hear that one enough don't you, Mutant Q? laugh

Mutant Q04 Aug 2010 12:23 p.m. PST

Yeah, Cyrus, I do. I wonder from whom?

"True Scale Wargaming"

Cacique Caribe04 Aug 2010 12:48 p.m. PST

"True Scale Wargaming"

Yes. But is it for figures that are truly 15mm to the eye, or figures that are truly 15mm to the top of their heads? :)

Seriously, why not simply call it "Top One Percent Wargaming" (as in 1/100 scale* – to top of head, of course)?

I figured that, if you are going to call it "True Scale", it would be a scale (1/100) and not a height (15mm, 17mm, or whatever), right?

This would be a great opportunity to start something right, from the get-go. A new and uniform mathematical standard that no one in their right mind could dispute.

Dan
* Based on a figure that is 17mm to top of head (representing a human that is 1700mm tall)

Cyrus the Great04 Aug 2010 12:53 p.m. PST

Yeah, Cyrus, I do. I wonder from whom?

I wouldn't have a clue! evil grin

Farstar04 Aug 2010 12:54 p.m. PST

"1% of the Future"?

(I make fun of others)04 Aug 2010 1:54 p.m. PST

I would suggest naming it "Cappucino Machines Unite." Then you can have a picture of a cappucino machine on the front page with a red line through it, to explain that this is not a website for cappucino machines.

ordinarybass04 Aug 2010 1:57 p.m. PST

I like "The One Percenter". But whatever is chosen, I'd suggest finding a not-too-literal catchy title and saving any mention of "Wargaming" for the sub-line.

As in..

The One Percenter (in big font)
A digest of 15mm Sci-Fi wargaming.(in smaller font below)

Mutant Q04 Aug 2010 2:48 p.m. PST

Would you guys also be interested in modeling articles?

Only Warlock04 Aug 2010 3:35 p.m. PST

"Lead and Lasers"
"NextWar"

or something else

I'll put together either a scratch building terrain article or a writeup including pics of a Painted Merc force with Stats for a variety of game systems (Or both).

How many pages do you want submissions?

Mutant Q04 Aug 2010 3:47 p.m. PST

I've got a build-up of a Hammer's Slammers HALO grav tank, complete with pictures, ready to roll.

Mutant Q04 Aug 2010 4:41 p.m. PST

I tried sending a message to Jage 111 and I keep getting a Mail Delivery Failure message. Is the address case sensitive?

Jage11104 Aug 2010 5:03 p.m. PST

Just send me an email with it to jagethebrainATgmailDOTcom .

Also, if we can find someone with more experience in page formatting that would be willing to lend their assistance that would be great, especially if you've worked on magazines before.

Thanks.

Mutant Q04 Aug 2010 5:09 p.m. PST

Here's a suggestion: Unless you already have access to a desktop publishing program (e.g. Pagemaker, Quark) you should get a copy of Scribus, an open source DTP program.

Also, I have some professional layout experience if you need help.

CPT Jake04 Aug 2010 5:37 p.m. PST

Not sure you want the attention calling it the one percenter may attract. That has some biker conotations that not fit.

Jake

M1Fanboy04 Aug 2010 5:38 p.m. PST

I've got Publisher 2003, but I'll give Scribus a look

Jage11104 Aug 2010 8:52 p.m. PST

I was thinking what you were thinking Cpt. Jake, also any name (at least in the subtitle) should contain some reference to 15mm, Sci-Fi, and wargaming.

For now, something between 2000-4000 words is fine. Scenarios can be smaller of course, it's really case dependent. But large articles (5K and larger) are going to be made two-parters.

Mutant,

Try sending it to me at:

PF 200905 Aug 2010 4:38 a.m. PST

Not sure if it's feasible:perhaps it would depend on manufacturers/companies but it would be great if scenarios were for several games/systems.

clkeagle05 Aug 2010 5:31 a.m. PST

Jason and Jage

I might give the world-building article a shot… I've spent the last month or so knocking one around, and it's been great fun. I've even gone so far as to outline a few short stories in my world, just to develop more detail.

Another thing that might be fun to include – a small section in the back posting different manufacturer's stats in different game systems. For example, what are some suggested stats for using Khurasan or Rebel Minis in Forge of War, Fast and Dirty, Chain Reaction 3, and Flying Lead?

Would anyone be interested in an article statting the various 15mm range aliens for AE Bounty? I know it's kind of new and intended for 28mm, but frankly it probably plays better with 15mm stuff and there are more interesting xenos in that scale. The official AE ones are very disappointing – only one that breaks from the immensely tedious "humanoid with funny head" pattern, and that's just a four-armed bugman.

"Not GW Authorized"

"Chapter Disapproved" :)

Battle Works Studios,
I'd be VERY interested in an article using the various new and cool 15mm aliens with AE Bounty!

"Heretical Scale" ;)

"The Rebellion" (against other scales & GW, plus a SW reference)?

I, for one, would def be interested if there are good comparison pics and reviews of the various 15mm manufacturers out there.

Ed's nailed it for me – One Five sounds bang-on!
I like it so much I've designed a logo in an attempt to force it through….

Would this fanzine be available in Hard Copy or PDF?
An old Sci-Fi wargamer needs to know.

For now, PDF. I'd be willing to do hard copy, but since Kinko's ain't cheap…we'd probably have to charge. So, in the interests of being fair about this, and keeping it free, we'll do PDF for now.

I think Lovejoy just nailed it…I'm working on the layout using Publisher…easier than I thought it would be, and that logo just rocks!

Good Logo Ed.

That's fine, but something reasoanbly printer-frendly would be nice.

Is there a preferred format for submissions?

.doc, .txt or .rtf are fine

for pictures, .jpeg or .gif

We'll keep as much of it in black and white as we can, but the logo (thanks Lovejoy!) and pictures will be in color, but we'll probably go with Century Gothic for the font.

Mutant Q06 Aug 2010 10:42 a.m. PST

"One Five"… YES! I think we have a winna!

Baldrick06 Aug 2010 10:09 p.m. PST

Thanks for the reply M1 Fanboy. I hadn't realized it was free.
Best of luck with this project. I do indeed hope it's successful. Be nice to have a sci-fi mag that i can check out for 15mm goodness.

Eli Arndt07 Aug 2010 11:01 a.m. PST

I like One Five also

Personal logo javelin98 Supporting Member of TMP09 Aug 2010 2:08 p.m. PST

Can we give it a bit more of a sci-fi flavor? Maybe "Delta One Five" or something? Otherwise, I think it's great!

(I make fun of others)09 Aug 2010 2:43 p.m. PST

"Sierra Foxtrot One Five" would be more appropriate, I'd think. Abbrev SF15.
