I don't think they used latex terrain in Ur. |

Ur was a city located in ancient Sumer. While it is possible that latex terrain was used there, the archeological evidence does not support this fact. |

Talking about flexible rubber latex used to cast, oh, 15mm village piece or fields with a road intersection? Slightly interested, though they don't seem to lie completely flat bottomed if not stored that way. After time they seem to curl at the corners a bit. My 2 cents. |

I think I saw some at Kubla Con this year in a game. Latex buildings. It was pretty cool how it was just thrown around and mashed, but came back to its original shape. Love to see some in 28mm
But I think its too big.

I think latex terrain would be a great way to recreate the terrain of Ur! |

I made my roads out of caulking (which is rather similar to latex) and burlap. These always get nice comments. My rivers are made of a latex material. They are OK. I like the latex crops and fields. This stuff definitely has a place on the wargame table. (All you lame 'Ur' people don't do any texting do you? -- Showing your age guys). mjc |

I've been using the World Terrainr Maker materials (roads, rivers, buildings) for years and love it. It's very useful for games with young folks (6-12) and is almost indestructible. |

I don't do any texting, but while working on my massive game stuff inventorying project I did run across a box of latex roads and rivers. I'm pretty sure I bought these in the 1991 to 1996 period, and I think they're from two different manufacturers. Can't remember the names of either maker but I did buy them all from vendors at the HMGS-East cons in Lancaster PA. Admittedly, I didn't do a very good job of storing the roads and rivers, so I wasn't too surprised to see they were all curled up and somewhat melted together. Most of the pieces can be separated and salvaged, but a few pieces are probably goners. I still like the latex terrain concept, but heed my warning! If you buy this stuff, make sure you store it carefully, store it flat, and put layers of some non-melt-likely substance (wax paper, maybe?) in between each layer of road and/or river. |

Against. Latex allergies are getting more and more common. Most if not all US hospitals have removed latex where feasible from inventories. Latex allergies can be obtained by constant contact or particle inhaltion. I've left welt marks on patients with latex tourniquets and just touching with gloves. My wife delveloped the allergy from always wearing gloves. Now EMS inventories have swithed. |

All you lame 'Ur' people don't do any texting do you? -- Showing your age guys First, we're not texting. Nor are we speaking lolcat. Second, if he wanted to save space in the subject line, for whatever reason, he could have just left off the Your/Ur, and had it be "Feelings on Latex Terrain?" Or even "Latex Terrain?" |

All you lame 'Ur' people don't do any texting do you? -- Showing your age guys I use Motorola's iTap softwaren and am charged by the message, not the character. It's actually harder to text something like "lkng 4 u" than to let iTap do all the work of typing "looking for you." Possibly *I'm* not the one showing my age? Also: if we keep our titles on-topic and correctly spelled, it's a lot easier to search for them. I'm for latex terrain, but I have very catholic taste in terrain. |

I have the latex roads from Monday Knight. I store them flat with layers of wax paper in between and that seems to do just fine. They also live in a basement that doesn't get real hot (just humid). Phil |

Latex? Now if we were talking SPANDEX 'terrain' on a lusty lass of questionable morals and intents, with
."HUGE TRACTS OF LAND"
.I could go for Latex or Spandex 'terrain'
.whatever she prefers as I 'slish about' her countrysides, tops, bottoms, over hills and plunging valleys

ur- / comb. form – primitive, original, earliest The OP just wanted to know our deepest feelings on latex terrain. All of this reference to Sumerian cities and whatnot is just disingenuous showing off. ;-) w. |

I have a set of roads and rivers in latex. Got very good use out of them over the years and they have lasted well. Brand names: Highway Rubbry Bend in the River Both long defunct and by James Morris of WAB El Cid fame. I did ask him to produce some more a few years ago, but he didn't feel it was viable on such a small scale. Pros: Conforms to slopes Looks better than 'flat' terrain like felt. Main Con:
Can't fold to match surrounding pieces – needs to be cut, which is a one way procedure. |

Hard to text in cunieform – my Elamite provider cut me off. Do not see much time savings in texting over simply talking to someone. Find it all rather annoying in a curmudgeon-y kinda way. Latex (if not you or other gamers are allergic) is easy to store and a good alternative to having breakable, bulky, expensive terrain board style options. I am looking forward to picking up some TheTerrainGuy stuff this Fall/Winter when budget allows. |
