If I go to Historicon next year, which hotel would people recommend? My priorities are as follows: 1. clean room and air conditioned 2. close to the game areas (main large hall, not the club rooms) 3. elevator access/general access to room for carrying your minis 4. Price (I'm willing to pay more, not looking for the cheapest room). What do you recommend? |

The Scanticon is the closest to the gaming areas (in fact the elevator dumps you out very close to the vendor entrance and the main gaming hall entrance. The Radisson is quite a bit further of a walk. Can't compare as I've never stayed anywhere else but the room was clean, a/c was good. Price is higher than offsite hotels of course. Steve |

I stayed at the Radisson. Clean hotel. Our AC did not work when we arrived, but they immediately moved us to a new room. There is a bit of a walk, though. All indoors so rain was not an issue. |

Straticon was closer to gaming area. I was in the Radisson. I will assume they can manage to fix the elevators by next year, which was the main problem. I plan to try the Stration next year as it is closer to more of the gaming and the six floors vs 15 (and still 3 elevators) probably will help the congestion. Either hotel is fine, though |

Radisson was nice, great bellman service. A bit of a hike to the non-club games but it was through air-conditioned hallways. Clean room, comfortable bed, and no prob with our AC |

I stayed at the Motel 6 down the street. 2 nights for less than 1 at either of the con hotels. A 3-4 minute drive, but since parking wasn't a problem, I had more money to drop in the dealer's area, |

I would rate the Radisson as Average. Lower price matched any tarnish on the edges. I did like the Select Comfort beds as it felt like home but that is about it. |

It's not on site, but I stayed at the Clarion Park Ridge Thu, Fri and Sat nights ($74, $99 USD and $99 USD respectively.) The room was clean and comfortable, the AC worked great in oppressive conditions, there was a free breakfast buffet Friday morning, and it was about a 60 second drive down the road if you hit all the green lights (as I did all but one time going back and forth). Each morning I got to the convention center around 8am and was able to park within, maybe, 150 feet of the entrance nearest the main gaming area. I truly don't think I'm stretching the truth when I say that if I left my hotel room at the same time as someone staying on a high floor of the Radisson, I'd get to the main game room first. |

Stayed at the Dolce and as I said in another post: "My father and I stayed at the Dolce. It wasn't a great experience at all. The outside was filthy, the halls were filthy and hot, the elevators were dirty – simply put, house keeping was the absolute worst. First, they didn't give us towels. Then, they made one bed wrong but made the other correctly. There was no fridge in the room which was inconvenient and the walls were paper thin so I got to hear the business meeting across the hall and, I kid you not, an orgy in the room above. Apparently female #1 was having a great time." |

I kid you not, an orgy in the room above. Apparently female #1 was having a great time." Well, at least Dolce provided entertainment! We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, which would have been about a mile away but for the closed road. Hopefully by next year (assuming HCon will return to the VFCC) the road will be open. Given the improvement in parking as compared to the Lancaster Host, driving back and forth from VFCC to a choice hotel was not an issue (room rate $99 USD plus tax). |

A first question to consider is how much trouble is it to be off site. In Lancaster I never stayed at the Host ( well since 1996). I thought the same this year, but the off sites sites were not walking distance. But there was plenty of parking, and a 10 minute drive was not too bad. I do like to walk back to my room every so often but did not find that a problem at the VFCC. I stayed at Fairfield. Cheaper than site hotels. Nice free breakfast -- waffles, jimmy dean breakfast sandwich, cereal, etc. Free coffee all day, cookies too, free wi-fi in rooms. Rooms very nice. TV = 4 screens in Congress. A pain bringing in items for our game, but maybe same inside. Next year, I am sure Bob G will come up with a way for GM's to get in easier. Have some carts by the registration/help desk and even some staff standing by to help. I would stay a Fairfield again. Is there any reason for H'Con not to be in VF again???? I would not have gone to Baltimore, even if all was like VF due to distance and general dislike of cities, but VF was a great experience. Again, thanks to H'Con staff for great con. |

"Apparently female #1 was having a great time." How many females were evident? Inquiring minds

It's interesting that Travelocity shows *no* top-rated hotels in King of Prussia/Valley Forge. Allen |

"How many females were evident? Inquiring minds
" Hahaha! Well, if inquiring minds must know
2. It started off relatively harmless around 1 AM when we got back to our hotel. They were all giddy, laughing and thumping around up there. Woke my father and I up a few times. Then I woke up around 3 AM and it was an all out party up there. I threw a pillow over my head and woke up around 7 AM to lovely silence. |

Stayed at the Scanticon. $139 USD per night. King size bed, big room, very efficient AC, minifridge, microwave and really nice jacuzzi. And elevators all the way down to the gaming area, though at high traffic times I hoofed it down the stairs to the side of the vators. Excellent parking. Good food at the Grotto, but pricey, though dinners were 20% off. Excellent staff. Also saw bellhops helping out with moving gamer material. Also was questioned several times about what the Con was about by the staff. Seemed to me that as the Con wore on the staff up'd it's game (pardon the pun). We ( the wife and I) will be back. |
