I'd like to know if the standard Luftwaffe F4F Phantom jets were painted in the various Lizard camo. schemes, or if only the RF-4E Recon Phantoms were?

Any info, or links to details would be appreciated.

I'm looking to paint up some jets for the height of the Cold War, from the mid-1970's – mid-1980's, or so.

As per my reply on your other thread, nope, never seen one. They were Norm 72, then the interim Norm 72/81, then Norm 81 ("Grey Mouse"). Lizard pattern (Norm 83) was for stuff mainly hanging around at low-level – as the F-4Fs were air-superiority tasked, Norm 81 was deemed much better camouflage in their normal operational environment. For "modern" Luftwaffe camo you can't do better than here:

Sorry Dom,

I guess I missed that portion of the message, when reading it early this morning (very late last night).

Apparently, I'd be better off reading after a bit of sleep.

Thank you for the clarification.

Sincerely,

Rob
