So, what do you say? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

How about the greman flecktran pattern
picture
minus the greens and use rust colors and greys with black.

Back on again computer crashed! lost lots and trying to catch up on news.

Dan,

I like the middle extreme left sample in the link below your name (cool mini or not)

War Monkey06 Jul 2010 10:35 p.m. PST

OK I see now, yeah from the link you gave under your name, I would go with second row, sixth from the left, which is still on line with the flecktran pattern, and somewhat on line on the colors I had suggested.

Weren't Snake Plissken's BDU pants supposedly from a Martian campaign?

(edited: just checked… they were three-colour grey, so not much use in Martian terrain. Wonder where I got that idea?)

Cacique Caribe07 Jul 2010 4:04 a.m. PST

LOL.

Maybe cause he was always such a Marty pants?

The landscapes seem fairly uniform, so I'm thinking highly disruptive patterns might actually be a bad idea. I'd try fairly solid color blocks, or maybe horizontal bands, in an assortment of red/orange "earth" tones.

There was a series of Starship Troopers comics that had a campaign on Mars. Here is a cover of one of them.

I'd consider the 2nd from right, middle row. Just a softer shade of the yellow, something not so bright.

When I first got into VSF I painted all My German Seebattalion in pink uniforms with brown leather equipment.
Looked nice but not very Prussian.

I painted this group of 6mm Sci-fi troops in Mars camo/colors. They are supposed to be stationed on Mars … They are based on the G/W 40K fluff about the Ad Mech/Skatarii/Titan Legions … But in a Color I think that is more in keeping with a Martian environment … picture

Here's some pics of my Capital Desert Scorpions. These guys are stationed on on a terra-formed Mars in the Mutant Chroncles universe.

I used mostly Rust and Burnt Sienna colors for my base camo colors. With some tan and black splotches. The yellow tiger-striped helmets came from the Warzone artwork.

My Imperials I used more tan colors washed with Citadel Chestnut Ink with some redish brown leather for the boots and webbing.

A redder version of the US 'chocolate chip' camo? Chocolate Chip works pretty well in the rocky american southwest, so should fit right in on a rocky Mars…

GW has ditched their Terracotta color, but I'd use an equivalent for the darker tan. Keep the dark brown, and use something like Vallejo Iraqi Sand for the light tan.

Alternatively (and faster to paint!), base coat with Iraqi Sand, wash with sepia ink magic wash and dark spots of flesh wash. Spatter with full-strength black ink. Let dry 24 hours, then spatter again with a good strong white that you've thinned down.

Best site ever for existing camouflage patterns kamouflage.net

This is one of my favorites, and it would work nicely…painting it in 28mm much less 15mm is beyond my skills link

These seem a bit easier, kinda, link link link link

Side note…I love this pattern for a darker palette like deep jungle link so maybe for canal operations?

On Mars, running around in that sticky electrostatically charged dust, you can wear a bright green suit and it would blend in the first few times you hit the dirt..

28mmMan08 Jul 2010 9:05 a.m. PST

Good point.

Perhaps having the clothing, equipment, and vehicles maintaining a series of reversed polarity to create voids and allowing the unprotected sections to retain the natural dust camouflage and preventing the overall coverage which would tend to build up and bind up filters, noses, intakes, etc..

Some of the CSO paint schemes seen in Rezolution might help, as the game's setting does include Mars.

Rottenlead17 Jul 2010 12:31 p.m. PST

I think a generic desert camo would be fine, perhaps with a darker rust tint in the mix.
