Can anyone suggest any sources of information, photos, descriptions, painting guides of some sort, for Cuban Army uniforms anytime from 1965 to 1985?

I can't date most of what I've found, which is not much. I am assuming that uniforms were usually Soviet pattern, but have seen some things which suggest that might not be true. Most of my searches have either yielded extremely recent pics or things relating to the Span-Am war.

I'm striking out on this one, any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

irishserb

Try the Osprey on Grenada. Also try militaryphotos.org.They have a file dedicated to the Cuban military.

In Africa they were also often seen North Korean-manufactured 'Lizard' pattern – seen in film of the Ogaden War of 1979, alongside troops wearing the usual plain olive green uniform.

Re the Cuban "Lizard Pattern"- this auction may shed a little light.

I actually saw one of these uniforms up close some twenty years ago. The colors as they appear in the photo are nearly spot on, in relation to the example I looked at.

What are you planning this time? :)

Thanks guys, some good stuff at the links, and I'm going to try to chase down a copy of the Osprey book later this week.

Darryl,

Wanted to add some Cuban "advisers" to my modern African stuff, and was considering doing a Grenada scenario or two if the figs worked out for that as well. I already have all of the US stuff that I would need. Plus a couple scenario ideas from a vet that I used to game with .

Brian,

What scale? I had some Combat and Liberation 20mm Cubans because I wanted to do the same thing (Grenada and Africa) but sold them because I just never got around to painting them.
