I've began a 54mm caveman project. I'm using Bronze Age Miniatures' generic models as the base for my tribal members (adding greenstuff hides and furs, and brass rod flint spears). Here are the first two members of my tribe (the warrior is actually an old Alpha figure I got from Black Cat Miniatures shown in the far left of the first pic. The figure for the shaman is from Bronze Age):

Carmen,

I have to say I wasn't too sure when I first saw the WIP but now that it is painted I have to say you really did a Great Job!!!!!

I discovered your blog a few weeks ago. Gotta love those Alpha/Blackcat gladiators! Love your stuff. Bravo! I've never considered cavemen before. But now… hmmmm…

Thanks, all!

Dave, yeah, I was admittedly a bit nervous, too, but paint always seems to pull things together.

Everyone else: If you want to have a go at something like this, drop Dave a line (at Bronze Age that is) – If the scale is putting you off, Bronze Age also makes 32mm scale generic figures that would fit with Copplestone and others.

I'd like to see someone make plastic 54mm cavemen. Nicely done.

All of a sudden there's a reason to "upscale" from 28mm; and at last find a use for my 50+ year old hand-made prehistoric creatures that I was bought when just a small boy – and kept all these years…!
Those figures are awesome – great "reversioning"!

I've got a large plastic 54mm tribe myself but I should work on a few of these for personalities. Thanks for the inspiration!

Just a quick update: Here are pics of my final "greens":

They are all primed at this point, and I'll try to start painting this weekend.
And here is the piece of art (by Czech artist Zdenek Burian) that inspired me to try this project out in the first place (that and my already-instilled passion for cave folk): picture

@evilcartoonist…well done…the shaman paint job is stunning with the contrasts :) The WIP, the scouts, inspired.

As far as Bronze Age, David is a great guy and his style of sculpting carries a great deal of weight for the muscular prehistoric people.

The 54mm would make great, giants. In a prehistoric fantasy setting with all the human potential…hobbit through giant. Would love to see a finished 54mm caveman next to a finished 28mm caveman.

Great work though, really nice.

I've finished a few of these figures:

… and a comparison shot of a 28mm (Copplestone) caveman next to one of Bronze Age's 54mm figures: picture
