Got to umpire two teams of two players each as I refamiliarize and simultaneously teach them SG2's rules.

We had 2 smallish Rebel squads regulars (gave them all Vet status) and a handful of Rebel Commandoes (elite) face off against 2 large squads of regular quality Stormtroopers plus a 2 man elite squad of scout stormies.

Imperials had d8 armor and the rebels had d4. Gave everybody the same rifles FP2/Impact d10 to simplify things.
The differences in leadership and quality really showed through as the game progressed. Cover use was also very obviously an important skill as a squad of stormtrooper regulars found out not to try to cross an open area unless you are running/combat moving.

I made a couple of screw ups on the shooting and close combat rules. Nobody tried the leader's communicate ability but they understood what benefit it would be, still.

I was very impressed at the open-mindedness of the group. Most of them including an older teenager are normally 40k players only but they took to the rules pretty well. The teenager said he looked forward to trying the rules but fielding his Eldar since that's what he normally plays.

Gave each team secret game-ending objectives. The rebels won by destroying a probe droid that the Imps could use as a single one-man squad. The Imps didn't know losing the droid would lose them the game, but they wisely put it 'in position' behind cover. If the rebels hadn't closed range like they did, it's likely the droid would have survived the entire game.

Seemed like everyone had fun. Looking forward to more games of SG2 now that the ball is rolling :)

P4H – well done. Always good to introduce them to SG while they're young.
