One platoon (= a 1/2 company, or 1/8 of the battalion) were 'Jager-Grenadiers' who wore the plume. The rest did not. |

1812 Jäger battalions were composed of 4 companies, each of 2 platoons. The 'Grenadier' company was comprised of 1 platoon of Grenadiers (who had plumes), and 1 platoon of tiralleurs or sharpshooters who were initially ordered to have plumes, but this permission was withdrawn in counter-orders a few days later, on 22 February 1811. It's all here in Conrad's translation of Viskovatov: link . |
