Trees from Oregano

Pat Ripley Fezian is after something that has presence, that actually looks like a small stand of tropical bushes, and is cheap, tough and portable.

With all of the negativity going on this week, perhaps a poll about something dear to many of us will calm the waters somewhat so that we can resume talking about games and miniatures (fat chance, I know, but at least it's an attempt).

So what's your favorite pie?

I'll start the nominations with the ones I like best:

Nesselrode
Blueberry
Chocolate pecan
Cherry
Raspberry

Since most of you (with the possible exception of the OFM) probably don't know what a nesselrode pie is, here's a link: link

In the interests of full disclosure, I must state for the record that I don't like ice cream diluting the purity of my pie experience. I love ice cream, just not on top of pie.

So what's your favorite?

Michael B28 May 2010 1:03 p.m. PST

Whatever Olivia Munn from G4 is jumping in.

ArchiducCharles28 May 2010 1:08 p.m. PST

Wow, now that's a tought provoking question! I like them all!

Raspberry and Lemon would be my two favourites, with apple (yes, à la mode) not far behind. And any pie my mother makes is obviously MUCH better.

Oh, and does Tourtière link counts? Add that to my favourites!

My wife makes the best peanut butter pie in the whole flppin' world. She even makes her crust from scratch. It would not be a life without this home made treasure. She also makes a great apple pie with apples picked from a local orchard.

Only apple pie is real pie--other pies are shoddy, third-rate corruptions of real pie. People who prefer or produce other pies should be given incentives to emigrate.

Sysiphus28 May 2010 5:37 p.m. PST

Boston Cream Pie (it's actually a cake); with Pineapple Cream pie a very close second.

I used to do a mean lemon meringue, using my great-grandmother's recipe.

I wonder if I can remember it (or find it; I must have written it down somewhere)?

John the OFM28 May 2010 7:05 p.m. PST

My sainted mother's blueberry.

Top Gun Ace28 May 2010 7:29 p.m. PST

Claim-Jumper's Chocolate Silk Pie – really more like ice cream than pie, but it is delicious.

A good Key Lime is probably next – most aren't.

Lemon Meringue.

Did I mention I actually prefer cake – Butter Cake, with Milk Chocolate frosting.

Pound Cake with a Lemon and Sugar glazing, heavy enough to soak into it, to make it ultramoist.

Cherry Chip too, though the mix for it is hard to find, and the frosting is next to impossible to locate. Use vanilla frosting, and add cherry flavoring, red food coloring, and maraschino cherry chips. Delicious.

Homemade for most of the above is best.

I love a good pie – steak pie, steak and pepper pie, chicken pie, chicken curry pie, shepherds pie, leek and bacon pie, pork pie, egg and bacon pie and even a pie floater (a meat pie in pea and ham soup).
