What products are we not allowed to criticize?
What do the fanboys jump all over us for criticizing?
Criticism may or not be justified. That is not the point. I am talking about subjects that fans will leap up to defend, regardless of the merits.
I use the word "fanboy" deliberately. If I am to be honest, I consider myself a FoW fanboy, but not a blind one.

I suggest some possible targets that make the fans wax wroth over criticism.

1) Flames of War. Me, I like the game, and will defend it. I am not fooled into thinking I am playing anything "realistic".

2) Poorly scuplted big boobed female fantasy figures. Me, I will sound off on any and all that I find show a poor knowledge of female anatomy.

3) Over-sized weapons. I don't like surfboard swords. Some do.

4) Soft plastic figures. People actually get the DH over criticizing them. Weird.

5) Stifles are NOT a product. They don't count. grin

6) Foundry. Oddly, I find the Foundry fanboys less risible these days. I don't know why.

7) Games Workshop. Ditto. Perhaps the fans are getting more cynical and accepting? grin

> What products are we not allowed to criticize?

Anything that is on The Editor's "must not criticise" list. We do not know what is on this list, for we are mortals. Yet we better not incur his wrath by offering plain and simple opinions on anything that is on the holy list. Even when we know we speak the truth, don't do it!!!!

I have recently been chided for ignoring you. I would like to publicly apologize for such churlishness. In the new spirit of Still-No-CA Board-Kumbayah I wanted to participate in this your first post incarceration prod to the "powers that be". Honestly, I really did.

I just have nothing to contribute.

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian28 May 2010 10:03 a.m. PST

I honestly have no idea. Most every product and system gets slagged and most get defended and while some posts that seem innocuous get the poster jugged, others that would seem to cross every boundry go unscathed.

I, am a sacred cow. I am so sacred that over 100 TMPers have protected me with invisibility….

John the OFM28 May 2010 10:19 a.m. PST

100???
Wow. I feel so inadequate.

nazrat28 May 2010 10:21 a.m. PST

Man, you seem obsessed with your number of Stifles, Doug. You've mentioned it at least a dozen times in the past day or two. Let it go, man! Some folks just don't want to hear you…

You know what's good with Sacred Cow? Sacred Mushrooms. Maybe a little Sacred A1 if it's a bad cut or the chef is having a bad day.

Rhoderic III and counting28 May 2010 11:58 a.m. PST

I have no idea what the soft plastic debate is about, but of the other things listed, I say none are sacred cows: They get criticized more than they get defended. Criticize anything* long enough and there's going to be a point where you hit bedrock.

*Well, not ANYTHING, but you get my point. Anything that's no more offensive, in a world with genocidal dictators and serial killers, than Games Workshop or miniatures with cricket bat swords.

ya know…they recently spotted bovine bones next to that 'lost' russian moon rover during latest round of lunar imaging…

Apparently THAT 'sacred cow' didn't QUITE make it 'over' and back….

A round of warm milk and cookies for everyone in 'remembrance'…..

Slishfully,
Sgt DWW-btod…

Sacred TENTACLES maybe…but I love cheeseburgers too much to consider bovines 'sacred'..unless they're the ones being milked to make the cheese that goes on the burgers from the ones who don't make the milk….

Gotta have one's priorities! OOOH! we need a 'Sacred Cow' icon-thing…like for troll and beer and popcorn…and pie

Can't! They just keep going up and up. Six new ones in less than 24 hours. Where are they coming from? The poll a while back showed high 99% TMPers "never stifle". This Website must be HUGE, or people who answer polls lie a lot. Whatever. Where will it end? When will it end?

Seriously, I have less and less to talk about lately. So it might as well be what I am "the best" at evil grin ….

2) Poorly sculpted big boobed female fantasy figures. Me, I will sound off on any and all that I find show a poor knowledge of female anatomy.

Oh really? I haven't seen you chop that "thing" on the front page. Or have you just not noticed? Or is the sculptor a personal friend? Don't be a hypocrite, now, what do you really think about that "thing" on the front page?…

Daffy Doug28 May 2010 2:38 p.m. PST

But if I ever do more than that you're number one on my list.

A warning! Thanks for the. I have not considered who would be my first Stifle. So I am ahead of you in not succumbing to the lure of the Stifle button….

Us John us! You are not allowed to criticize us! If you do I will, well I will probably do what I did when you did some research for us and you know how awful that was (but no one else does and if you reveal it well I might be bribed into going easy and only doing it by 50%!!!) so don't you dare!! You have been warned!!!

Jo:)

Striker28 May 2010 11:04 p.m. PST

I use the word "fanboy" deliberately. If I am to be honest, I consider myself a FoW fanboy, but not a blind one.

I've always interpreted the word "fanboy" to mean someone who was a blind supporter? I don't think any topic is sacred, there's just some areas of interest where more people will pick up the guantlet. I've heard Nappies have a lot of supporters but since that's not my period of interest I don't read any posts there. Maybe it's not so much a matter of sacredness as the form of the criticism (warranted or not)? Being told "I think you can do better, give it another go" gets a nicer response from me than "you just blow".

And obey the cow god!
