I promised Cacique Caribe that I would do a run of pictures comparing the new Rebel Minis 15mm Post Apoc Survivalists and Gang Members to a mix of miniature lines in the same way I recently did for the Eureka 15mm SciFi Germans a couple of weeks back. While doing the pictures, I was able to get a good look at the various companies and drew a few conclusions I will share on how well they match up.

As a little review of the Post Apoc Survivalists and Gang Members, I must say that Bobby Jackson did a very nice job on the sculpts. The minis have nicely proportioned bodies that are more realistic than the squat and chunky look many 15mm figures have. There is a really nice variety of poses and styles that really open up the possibilities for the figures, especially the Survivalist since they are very generic and can easily fill numerous roles in 15mm. The Survivalist are clearly my favorite of the two packs, but both are very nice and a good buy for modern games or any for of Post Apocalyptic or Necromantic type game. I'm like guns on my gang members, so some of the guys only armed with a melee weapon are not my favorite, but they are still nice and I am sure a lot of folks love guys with giant axes as much as I like machine pistols and assault rifles. Bobby has asses some variety into the individual figures, so you will find some are taller and bigger than others, but these are mainly the big brutes with melee weapons, so that kind of make sense. The Hockey masks etc add some nice touches; I just hope that I can spray prime the minis with out losing any of the fine facial details on the masks.

In regards to scale, the Post Apoc Gang Members and Survivalists go very well with most of the current Rebel Minis line. They are especially well suited to being mixed in with the older Gang Members and Zombie hunters. I was also very please how well they matched the scale of the US Army minis Rebel released not too long ago since I may use these guys with the soldiers for ATZ or Ambush Z games. The only real exceptions I could point out are that they are much too tall for Rebel's Fedayeen and Modern Insurgents (not shown in the pictures). Other good Rebel minis matches were the Military Contractors, Titan Marines, Sahadeen and EF Marines. On the not so great side, the Rebel minis tend to tower over all the GZG minis I placed next to them (I forgot to take some GZG pictures after I compared the minis! Doh!) . The GZG style (on the figures I own) have a shorter and more stout frame with much larger heads and hands than the Rebel minis. While this may not bother some, it does not really work for me very well, so I will likely not mix the two companies. The opposite is true for Critical Mass Game's ARC troopers since they are all a very close match to the Rebel figures in higher and build. Even the Critical Mass Mercenaries looked good with the Rebel Survivalist and Gang members. Khurasan's recently released Resistance fighters look a little short and stocky when placed next to one of the taller and skinnier Rebel figures (or any of the Critical Mass ARC troopers). Peter Pig Marines are almost as tall, but they have larger body proportions and a chunkier style that makes them stand out from the Rebel minis, so I would suggest using the Rebel US Army figures instead if you need the minis to match most of the other miniatures in the Rebel line. The Eureka SciFi Germans look fairly good with the Rebel minis, but they are a little shorter, but not overly much so. As for non-human aliens, they don't need to match any other mini in size or scale, so I have included a sprinkling of Aliens so you can get an idea of the relive size of the various miniatures.

Hope this helps give you a little more information about these very nice new minis from Rebel.

The smaller scale on the insurgents doesn't bother me as much; you can blame that on nutrition or the fact that many are teens.

I can't wait to see them painted.

One thing in this comparison that really helps is the Felid/Protolene comparisons with humans. They seemed to get the height just right: they're taller than humans, but that makes them big and beefy and intimidating rather than out of scale or cartoonish.

The higher recruiting standards and new athletic regimen is having the desired effect. The newer GZG New Israelis are notably taller and slimmer than their predecessors, and IMO fit in better with the Rebel minis I have. The rebel minis civilians tower over everybody.

Wellspring,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I have a few of the newer GZG Isrealis, but to a man I think they are all kneeling and prone so that did not work for a comparison. I've been told that most of the new GZG stuff fits in a lot better, but have not yet ordered any so I could not compare them, making your feedback very appropriate and welcome.

In regards to the Rebel Fedayeen and Modern Insurgent, I have a number of them I use mixed in with a lot of Rebel Masked Gunaman. Mine have a second base added under them to make the hight about the same as the Masked Gunman. The main reason I mentioned it was because some individuals are less tolerant of the size differnces and were upset before when they got them and they were not the same size.

I placed the Felids and Protelene together since many people have mentioned using them as part of the same army or as opposing forces. The Protolene are noticibly smaller in mass to the Felids, but that seems to fit big preditor cats versus Jackals.

I got the survivalists to help fill in my Human forces for my Terminator stuff..they really do look the part, and one of them might paint up well as a certain female cyborg….
