What other companies will fit with LotR 25mm figures? I like to use historical figures as well, so please include those. |

When I had my LOTR stuff, I used a number of the old Ral Partha historical 25's that matched well. They were cheap at the conventions, about .50 a foot,$1.50 for mounted. Dont know if they're still avalable or not. |

In addition to those mentioned previously, I think you will find these are also good sources in terms of scale and style: The currently available LOTR minis from Mithril Miniatures have some good matches for Dwarves and the old Harlequin line is available from Black Tree Designs (BTD – called Legions of the Realm) have some Character minis that make good additions. E-Bob makes some English knights and Scots that are the same size (plus the one-off fantasy mini). I use the Scots as the Lamedon hill-men. He also has made various fantasy minis that could step right out of the movie as minor characters. Some of the WOTC D&D miniatures make good additions – in particular some of the elven archers and humans mix well. Plus the giant spiders. On the dark side, various of the non-cartoon orcs make good additions. I freely mix in the older Mithril orcs (Time Machine Miniatures), some of the old Grenadier Orcs (Army of Black River), and few select others. On the Monster side, Reaper has a Giant Eagle, Giant Spiders, Goblin Wolves, Dire Wolves, Dire Bear, etc. I also use Ral Partha wolves. Majestic Bear makes superb alternate Ents and Beorn. Thomarillion makes some superb scenic pieces including Grond and its crew of trolls and beasts, Corsair Ships, etc. Last, GW itself makes some cheap WH bats that are easy to use for Swarms, plus you can kit-bash alternative giant eagles using the WH Eagle bits. so, do you guys think the new Gripping Beast plastic Vikings would be compatible withe the Dunlending Warriors from GW? |

I use Artizan Moors as Hardadrim, Gripping Beast figs are good, Crusader also and I use Warlord Celts for Dunlendings |

Are GW metals taller than their plastics? I thought someone mentioned this a while ago. |

I use Old Glory historicals, Gripping Beast, Crusader, and some Perry miniatures. Old Glory is almost spot on with the LOTR metals. Gripping Beast is a little larger and the sculpting style is a little different, but they work pretty well. Crusader is just a tad smaller than the metal LOTR figs, but fit with their plastics perfectly. Perry Miniatures are a perfect fit since they sculpted most of the LOTR figs also. I also use Mithril dwarves and some humans and they fit perfectly. Mithril's horses are a little larger than GW LOTR horses. I have some comparison pictures here link |

Considering the massive scale difference in the LOTR range between metal and plastic, new and old, pretty much anything will do from any ancient ranges but smaller 28mm do fit best. |

Good news because I got a box of the metals at Cold Wars for only a few dollars. The fellow thought they were plastics! |
