Hey guys,

Awhile back, there was speculation TMP link about the size of the miniatures included in Fantasy Flight's new remake of the Horus Heresy boardgame. link

I just got my copy today (courtesy of a nice preorder discount from CardHaus link ), so here goes:

The miniatures are all in one of two scales. As board games goes, that's not bad! Alas, neither scale is a very popular one for sci fi.

The bad news is that the infantry are about 10mm scale, not 15mm as some had hoped. As true from time immemorial, the Space Marines are NOT taller than the regular humans, so pedantically speaking, they are not all to scale. But since every Space Marine ever made since Rogue Trader has had this problem, they are effectively all in scale with each other. So if you wanted to do 40K in 10mm, there is now a limited selection of figures to do it with. The varieties included are Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus techpriests, Adeptus Arbites (kind of a cool surprise) Adeptus Custodes, Imperial Army (Guard), and a couple different types of Chaos cultists.

The vehicles (Baneblade tanks, Thunderhawk gunships, and Titans) are all about 2mm scale. The Titans would work as Epic-scale knights, but just barely, they are on the small size for that. But it would work. 7 are included--3 loyalists, 4 traitors. They appear to be some kind of Warlord titan variants, but with no shoulder-mounted weapons.

There are also some giant defense laser batteries (think the Ion Cannon from Empire Strikes Back) of indeterminate scale. They might barely work as 6mm guns, but would be better as 2mm, or even starship scale.

I don't know whether FF sells game parts separately, and obviously this would be an expensive game to buy just to cannibalize for parts. But people were wondering, so I thought I would give this little review.

Oh, I should have mentioned that as a boardgame, this looks awesome, and I can't wait to play it!

Thank you for the review. I've been waiting for one. I'm not sure about this game, I'm not really much of a boardgame player ultimately, although I did like space hulk. Let us know when you have played it and what you thought.

From what I've read so far, it's a deeper, more complex boardgame than Space Hulk. (Not to knock Space Hulk, which is a triumph of symplicity, elegant design, and fun.)

They never have in the past, and I doubt that's changed. The question's come up repeatedly in regard to their other games, and even the ones that don't involve an outside license (eg Descent) aren't sold seperately even if you beg.
