FYI, the HMGS War College at Historicon 2010 features 17 PAGES of different speakers and seminars. It is a very impressive list. Highlights include scheduled presentations by David Glantz, Dale Dye and the Perry Brothers. For details, please go to the Historicon web site.

47Ronin – that's twice that I've spent a few seconds doing what you should have done originally. frown

Thanks, Col. Campbell.

FYI, I've tried to link these things before and failed. I knew more experienced and capable hands (like yourself) would get it right.

Wow! I saw enough there to fill my convention up and that didn't include trips to the dealer area or games.

Great looking show is forming up.

Looks like lots of good lectures. I would like to see the Perrys.

Great program and is another reason that everybody needs to go to Historicon at least once.

Ronin, why not ask a friend to show you how to copy and paste?

Fascinating line up.

Are these people paid to entertain the gamers or do they work pro bono. Game masters should be paid the same, if there is any.

This is a great line up of live History Channel presentations but I came to game and shop. Between running games 2/3s of Friday and Saturday and playing some on Thursday, not much time for seminars.

Perhaps there should be a separate admission charged for these to see if they really recover their costs.

Will native peoples be picketing the King Philips War program.

I don't see anything wrong with having such an impressive lineup of historical military speakers, nor if they are paid a speaking stipend.

Maybe what we should do is charge tournaments for all the space they take up, in relationship to the few gamers that occupy that space.

I don't believe that is a good idea either.

Part of HMGS's mission is to promote the study of military history. I think this fits that bill a lot better than some other atypical things that go on there, including matching armies up against each other in tournament play that never met on the real field of battle.

Everything at a convention has a cost that can be broken out to it. These lectures are usually packed, so you tell me how that is a bad thing.

Bob has done an excellent job on the War College. Hat off Bob, the cost for speakers is always an issue but it the board approves the CDs budget who do you hang?

A lot goes on in our convention committee meetings. However, most of the work is between them and well after the budget is submitted. What is presented at the cons is a combination of oppertunities and execution of reliable standards. Regardless of where we put our available funds each part of the program is vetted and closely observed by each member. While we don't always agree on everything, once we come to a reasonable consensus, we all support the action. As we strive to get different perspectives when we are organizing a convention program, we keep in mind that we also have different tastes to please. If you don't see the use in something we do at the con…that's fine. Maybe it's not for you. If you see an event repeat or expand at Historicon, it is generally because there is a demand and we've gotten positive feedback on it. That's how we roll. If you have any good ideas you would like to share, we're listening. You might not see them right away, but when we have a spot along with the money and it fits the program…we'll probaly give it a try.

Greetings from lovely Downtown Lancaster, PA, home of Historicon 2023.

Rather than start a new topic, it's time to update an old discussion. (Now you know why I don't put years on these topics when I start them.) What's 13+ years between posts? Perhaps a new TMP record?

For those who might be interested, what follows is a VERY brief summary of the War College lectures at Historicon 2023. For further details, please check the convention program or the Historicon Guidebook.
