I'm painting up a model of the S-100 schnellbote seen here: picture and I'm trying to determine if that is an olive green, or if the Kriegsmarine used a blue shade for their cammo.

Thanks,

Wyatt

Hmmm, I'm not really sure that is an official camo. scheme, but it looks very nice, nonetheless.

Looks more like an aquamarine blue to me.

Most S-Boats were Schnellboot Weiss, or S-Boat White, which was a very light gray, and at our smaller scales should probably really be white, of a very light white/gray color.

Usually their decks were dark gray as well, to blend in with the water (panzer gray would work). For the Mediterranean though, there were boats painted a dull, pea green color on their decks.

I'd suggest checking out the PT Dockyard website's links, for some more info on the subject.

There are a number of good books out on S-Boats as well, and I think many are listed there on the website.

drop me an email and I can send you some images that might help – david dot manley at btinternet dot com

Might take a little while to reply if you do as I'm currently fighting my way across Europe to reach the channel and make it home to Blighty!

NO! Don't do it! Whatever scheme that model has, it has no basis in reality!

Check this link for just about anything on S-boats

Dave,
I can't resist… is the RN picking you up at Dunkirk?

ptdockyard,

One of the images from your link above could well show a scheme like that on the model: picture

Camo, yes. But these are earlier S-30 class boats in the Channel circa 1941 (note they have no bow gun), not the S-100 model shown.

So far only one image has emerged of an S-100/ Skullcap bridge S-boat with any kind of camo. It is in a book about the Finnish Navy and shows a German boat in the Baltic. I will try to post it this weekend.

It is not a spray job, either. All S-boat camo appears to be brushed. The only spray camo I have seen on German craft is on Kuestenjaeger boats in the Adtriatic.
