Hi Folks

I'm after a figure that will represent a member of the above regiment. They are also known as the 2nd American regiment and the 105th regiment of foot.

Figure would ideally be 40mm plus but smaller may be OK so pointers to any manufacturer would be good.

I have found one 54mm figure in resin but it is very pricey, even for a display piece (which is what this is for) and I prefer working with metal.

I have illustration of the uniform but I'm totally unfamiliar with the period so have no idea if their uniform is particularly distinctive. Would any other units have the same uniform ? and if so, which ones – they may be easier to find.

Thanks for any help

Tony

The figure MR5423 illustrated here:

looks remarkably like any other British light infantry figure.

It's the large lace on the jacket and the distinctive hat shape that make this uniform different. Troiani's well-known painting is here:

"It's the large lace on the jacket and the distinctive hat shape"

Looks like a normal light infantry cap to me. And the lace feature can be painted.

Hi Mike

That's the one I found too – a bit too rich for my blood I'm afraid.

GiloUK – I did think there was a very distinct similarity between the uniforms of the Irish and the 'normal' light infantry. How big a difference is there ? Would it be really noticeable to anyone but an expert in a 54mm figure ?

The Brandenburg lace, the distinct hat and the pointed cuff seem to me to be the three things you could alter on a light infantry figure (though the Troiani figure might have a full tailed coat, its hard to make out).
It could all be done with sculpting putty, but would depend on how skilled you are with it; the hat would be pretty tricky.

"the distinct hat"

It still looks like a standard light infantry cap to me. What evidence do have that it is different?

Its like the usual light infantry hat, but has a pointed top, the LI caps are often depicted as rounded at the top. While the Saratoga style hats have a pointed peak, they also have a crest which this one doesn't have. Its not a big deal, but more problematic would be the apparent shape of the front of the hat in the Troiani painting; its wider in the middle than at the bottom. This may just be the angle of the picture, as I haven't seen an any other depiction of this hat, so it may be straight up at the sides?

Theres also an illustration in the latest Osprey on Loyalist troops. I'm doing the Southern Campaign and have been trying to find an appropriate figure to use as well.I'm thinking about going with the Perry Saratoga Brits, and they have the cap,and some have the tall leggings.

I think thats the closest we will get to that distinct uniform.

Bob
