Chin Chin fellows.
Heres a battle report of last nights Blazing Skies.

We set it in the 1938 Spain and for a lack of Bf109A Antons simply proxied a Bf109E. I'm certainly not milliputting my lovely Emil for the sake of one fight.
The Republicans were taking the I16 type 4 Rata model.

To even things up a bit, I gave the Russian "Advisor" pilot the Bounce and made him GunZ +1 to give him a fighting chance.
I piloted the Rata and Mrs Atkins took the Anton.

The Rata started 24" behind and in the Antons Rear Arc.Both were at starting speed 3 which equates to about 260mph. Thus the Rata was already caning his motor whilst the Anton was bumbling along with damlier purring like a happy cat.

The Polikarpov was also at height 10 where its little engine was gasping for oxygen, the Anton at height 6 and just a little above its best altitude for power.

The game started. Senior Lt Atkins decided that the best option was just to plough down and get some speed up. thus I started with a Shallow dive.

Lady Atkins Rolled for spotting since it was a Bounce situation. needing a 1 or 2 on D6 to spot due to the Anton limited veiw canopy, she got a 1 first turn. Hacking round in a B class left turn, rolling for the weathercocking effect the slats stayed nicely shut and round the Anton came. With throttle thrown forward she gained speed heading close to upping her ASI to 4.

Simultaniously down came the Rata and my ASI rose to a mighty 5 or nearly 400mph. The Ratas crackup speed was 5 so I really should think twice about gaining more velocity. On the other hand I was now at height 8 and diving. Although both me and the Bf109 had arc and angle on each other, the seperation of height at range 18" meant we were out of range!

Turn 2)
The Bf this turn with its throttle slammed open gained speed 4. Mrs A converted this into a steady straight shallow climb and slid forwards cutting her speed back down to 2 and reaching height 8. I for my part had too much forward speed, but i kept the throttle slammed to the hilt for the moment. Leveling off I pulled a gentle left F turn which pulled my stubby fat nose into line with the Antons yellow spinner.

Both crates hammered a storm of glowing dice at each other 2 for the rata and 3 for the Anton. I managed to get one dice hit on the fuslarge of the Facist and was reciprocated by a shaKa hit to my own hull.

Turn 3) Face to face and at very short range it was clear this turn I was going to overshoot the missus who was struggling after the climb. So be it! I'll dive again then with the stupid amount of speed, I'll go for a halfloop.
Down went the I16's nose in a straight. The 109 hacked round in a level C class turn. Since it was shallower than its minimum of a B Class, no weathercocking roll was needed.

The plan worked wonderfully. At speed 7 which is terminal velocity for me, my Rata skimmed the trees at height 1.
The 109 was hauling round a fair way behind me and a couple of thousand feet above.

Turn 4)
The Bf's superior power made itself felt as Mrs atkins again revved up and hit speed 3, just enough for a wingunder. the Anton flipped upside down and hauled under coming parrellel accross my tail 8" behind. My halfloop chopped my speed back down to 2 as I rolled off the top.
The Facist was now on the deck and ripping along at speed 5 across my path. I was coming off the top of my half loop about 4 levels above and hence hadnt got an angle. CURSES!

Turn 5) Out of speed and facing a 109 below me I did have some height to trade. Rather than just waste it in a turn, i bargained on the 109 sideslipping and with my paltry forward speed, I just shallow-dived straight, hoping for a close range crossing shot.

Yeah, well, even a sprog pilot like Mrs A wasnt going to sideslip at level 1 straight into the turf. She straight-shallow climed and the kites ended up 1" away from each other with noses crossing and almost touching. the Rata just had the better arc and I hammered a point blank burst at the Anton smashing up its engine a little. Black smoke streamed out and it started to lose power. The Antons guns flashed and My engine shuddered and vibrated losing precious power.

Turn 6)
Both kites now ripped round in vicious left turns. The Antons climb had left it almost out of puff and the B class turn had it reduced to stalling speed. my speed 3 class A turn brought me slightly behind it on its 5 o clock and another burst hammered out. The G orces must have been crippling though as I drilled holes in passing doves rather than my wifes head.

Turn 7)
At speed 3 and behind the Bf's tail I noted as Mrs A revved up just past stall speed to 1, saving her from a spin into the drink, that I was going to overshoot! Feathering back, I chopped the throttle. i dropped to speed 2. looking at my options I realised i was in a pickle. too much forward speed. if I dived at this height i would slam into the floor. If I raised my nose, the shot up engine would stall. I couldnt sideslip or the same thing would happen. i went for a A class turn, simply out of hope.
The Facist simply flew straight and level. My Rata shot past and she caned me at pointblank range with all guns. the Rata couldnt take that kind of damage and my last structure point flew off the stubby little kite collapsed in mid air, leaving me holding the joystick and peddling.

Ripping open my chute, i drifted down. The Anton barrle rolling in victory, it limped back to base.

kites?

They are fluttery cloth and paper toys carried aloft by the wind.
The Taliban banned then during their rule, which is why the Allied air campaign suffered no air-to-air threat.

Possibly.
