Finished my last drops of a very, very old and excellent Humbrol matt varnish no longer in the market. Which make would you fellows recommend, for using on acrilics?, if possible available on-line! |

humbrol matt cote, a truly great varnish, just make sure you give it a thorough shake every time before you use it, dries to a lovely matt and never yellows, oil based, regards jim |

Dullcote has a flat finish. This is different than 'matte', which has a slight sheen to it. |

I use Delta Ceramcoat indoor matte varnish. It is brush-on and very inexpensive. Of course I'm in the US and you may not be able to find that acrylic craft paint brand in Spain. But there may be an indigenous line of inexpensive craft paints that have a brush-on matte varnish. Jim |

Flowquil Flat spray. Spray and then immediately put it under a sun lamp. Comes out dead flat. I love the stuff!

I finally found a flat varnish that's actually flat and doesn't go white at the slightest hint of moisture: Mr. Super Clear Flat from Mr. Hobby. When I first got it I tried it on a half painted test figure, and the plastic itself turned mat, just as if I had painted it! Best part is, it doesn't smell too bad (kinda remind me of Tamyia acrylics, actually). |

I use GW's Purity Shield – I know its satin finish but, 9 times out of ten its very reliable and gives you a pretty flat finish. You get the odd can here and there that comes up a bit glossy. Usually the solution is to store it in a warm place for a day or two and its fine again. Just bought Vallejo matte spray – haven't tried it yet, it was actually more expensive than a GW one. Have tried the DIY matte spray cans and they are NOT matte at all. |

humbrol matt varnish spray is now back on the market, new formula it's better than ever, but make sure you get the one for acrylics or enamel, there are 2 sorts |

Another vote for either Testor's Dullcote or Floquil's product. I've used both sprays with excellent results. |

Windsor and Newton artists' acrylic. Flat as a pancake, to mix my metaphors |

Ditto christot – winsor & newton matt artists acrylic was a revelation. Easily brushed on, great flat matt finish, brushes clean in ordinary H2O, and for the rest of the family – no smell. I understand it sprays well in an airbrush at 50/50 dilution, but havent tried this yet. My 3 universal products for miniatures painting are this varnish, Rowney black gesso for priming, and future/klear floor polish (+ W&N peat ink) for shading wash. |

Great, timely thread – I picked up some W&N acrylic matte varnish today, I look forward to giving it a try. |

Winsor and Newton – straight from the bottle with a brush it works fine, for airbrushing I mix it 1:1 with Liquitex airbrush medium and add one drop of flow improver. I put a couple of ball bearings in the bottle to ensure it mixes well, and a couple of glass beads in the airbrush jar, and use them to keep the stuff mixed as I go along. |
