I got mine yesterday, so far I've only taken a superficial look through it. Some lines have a fair bit of romantic hero worship to them:
"Highland and Island Scots were warriors to the bone" is one that comes to mind.
But on the other thand the author does not shy away from subjects like the abuse and depredations cause by the custom of "coyne and livery".

A reader more at home with the subject may well make a diffrent evaluation but so far I find it a decent read with plenty of period artwork and the modern colour platse are well done too.

"Highland and Island Scots were warriors to the bone"

Could have been written by Cornwell!!! :O)))))))

I will still buy a copy though- just for the plates.

Darrell.

"Could have been written by Cornwell!!!"

Osprey.

Cornwell.

I am minded of the old Frontier saying, "The cobra spits, the Pathan speaks, and who grows rich on the difference?"

The plates are gorgeous Darrell. The writing seems pretty concise and gives a pretty good flavour. I can't comment on the accuracy but it seems to be all there. Its a nice book.

Any chance of a brief review Daniel?

Does he confuse his Redshanks with his Galloglaich?
