I'm going on a trip from the US to Rome with a bunch of students. I won't have much free time, but I was wondering if there were any cool games/miniature stores. I know we can order just about anything online, but that's not quite the same. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

I was in Rome for my honeymoon in 2001 and I remember passing a hobby shop on one of the main streets. Went in; everything was in Italian but it was still cool. I think it was a model shop not a gaming store but truth is, I don't remember very well -- possibly I had other things on my mind!

We were at a hotel near the train station so all our excursions were either walking distance from there or from one of the two main subway lines. I remember passing by the store 3 or 4 times or so; going in was one of those "gee honey, we've passed it so many times, must be fate, why don't you go in and look" sorts of moments.

Wish I could remember the name or street; tried Googling for you but couldn't hit on it. I guess, 9 years later, it might be closed now.

Strategia e Tattica
here their website: strategiaetattica.it

They have two places but I know only this one. It is near the main railway station (Termini) and Colosseo, and near a subway station (Cavour, line B).

I heard about a new shop but I don't know where it is.

Strategia e Tattica is on the main st ( Via Cavour ? ) from Termini Station to the Colosseum ( easy walking distance ) . I visited a few times and each time found the staff very helpful and pleasant. There was always a staff member who spoke good English which was helpful , as much as i speak Italian it doesnt extend to hobby matters. Be sure to get a gelati a few shops down. cheers Tom

I didn't find any miniature shops but I grabbed loads of the 1 euro souvenirs of the various Italian landmarks (available at all the tourist spots) as they are ideal for scenery in the smaller scales. And I second the comments on the gelati!

Strategia e Tattica is what you're looking for. As you will be with students, you'll probably pass it on your way to the colesium, or at least you can divert to it.

Third vote for the gelati. Have one for me!

There's a small toy store on the Via del Tritone, about 50 yards west of the Piaza Fontana del Tritone, with some nice 1/32 prepainted EIR figures…but I was mostly occupied with looking for good food and wine and not figures while in Rome!

Thanks, all! I can almost taste the gelato now!
Oh, and Grumpy Smurf, You're absolutely right, but I'm not ready to go into miniatures rehab just yet :-)
