I am currently painting 28mm Austrians and would like to know what color the canteen support strap should be. I have seen pictures showing a light grey strap (what I am painting mine) and leather strap (Grenadiers only?). I have also seen 28mm Austrians painted with a white strap. I like the looks of the white strap. Would white strap be proper or does it matter? |

Are you talking about the strap around the body, or the strapping on the canteen itself? |

IIRC it was grey or light brown : picture Having said that, I paint mine white; it looks better. Like you said, I don't think it matters that much. Iannick Clash of Empires link |

Yes, both – the strap around the body which goes around the outline of the canteen, to hold it against the hip, as seen on ArchiducCharles sample picture and the "Y" straps around the outside. Thank you in advance. I will paint them white and the straps on the outside of the canteen as well white, unless I hear otherwise. |

All my Austrians have the canteen in the cover that looks like leather? I paint them orange and mix with a dash of black which makes a nice light brown. The white straps will look really good. I just finished 125 figures with 100 more to go and that is just the ones in Shako. I still have the same amount to do in Helmet. Life is good. Thanks you all for the help and quick response. |

the Tschutera was made of wood, the straps – natural leather. For the white metal canteen before that (before 1801) I am not sure. |

Leather or white. I have seen both. I paint mine as leather it helps to break the monotony in an "all white" environment. |
