After a calamitous game of AK47 Two weeks ago, I stormed home and dumped all the figures into stripper. With Morale Rolls of 1,1,1,2,1,1,1,1,1,2,6,1 in a 7 turn game, the fact that there were shiney bits all over the figures was the last straw. So, I have stripped and repainted. But doing so has brought home how samey my forces are. My Tanks are all T55s, my A/C are all French, my Trucks are either Unimogs or Toyota Pick-ups. So, I am going to indulge myself and get some nice new vehicles. What should I treat myself to? T-72s? Centurions? Saracens? Any other nice suggestions? Pat |

My chaps are largely western supplied – Centurians, Saladins, Saracens, some old M47s. The 'rapid reaction' RM Commando detachment which supports them has 105mm light guns and some Scorpians, plus a Wessex helicopter. The trucks are mostly conversions from kids toys though, Chad Valley in the main. |

Why not go retro and have some T34/85's, Su100's, JS2's etc |

Some suggestions- (mostly 'cos they look cool!) Chinese apc's K-63 or ex soviet BMP-2's
. AA vehicles for suppressive fire in the ground role
SU-57-2's (on a T55 chassis) or the Czech Praga M53/59 – twin 30MM AA. Air support from Mil Mi 8 helicopter- work horse of Africa. Go with Russian trucks too-Gaz 66 or bigger Zils -they look a bit like old WW2 Studebakers. And you gotta keep the T-55's- give 'em some tank riders! |

"Why not go retro and have some T34/85's, Su100's, JS2's etc" Yes, those are very smart, and particularly handy if you have any Cuban 'advisers' along. |

How about some light tanks, Scorpions, Chinese Type 63s, PT76s? Dunno if you have Arty on table in AK47, but 122mms, 100mm, 85mm, 76mm ex-Sov pieces were (probably are) quite common around Africa, and you can get dual-use with WW2 Russians. Perahps you could snaek in the odd Katyusha or 130mm piece? |

You stripped and repainted figures just because they lost a game?!? I currently have a miniature serving hard time in my gulag for fleeing from almost the first shot of the game and ruining the whole plan forcing me to lose my tooled up gang leader in a rescue mission. He will never see the light of day again. |

Max, I'm looking to expand my Moderns from Iraq/ Afghan conflicts to African shores. I thought you might be THE GUY to ask for recommendations for 28mm figures for an "African Army" – hardcores/pros, militia & amateurs w/ guns. Any recommendations would be gratefully accepted. Mike |

Sadly TML, I never touch the big guys for this period. You might want to consider joining the Yahoo RFCM group and asking the same question. link Pat |
