Does anyone own this tome? According to the reviews on Amazon it's all that, a twelve pack, and a bag of chips.

Yep it's excellent, i bought it a few months ago and covers pretty much everything you would want to know about the battle.

Includes.. Battle maps following the various ships movements, many cross section diagrams of Victory, Uniform plates, eye witness accounts of Trafalgar, details and maps of the other royal navy battles of the period, colour diagrams and info on all the ships at trafalgar, full page paintings of ships in battle, flags and the way they were used to communicate, crew numbers including marines for each ship…..

It's quite a hefty book A4 size with 560 pages. Highly reccomended and very easy to read and follow.

I have no regrets about buying it. Not cheap – but the coverage is really so much wider than just Trafalgar.

the Adkin or the Padfield?

If it's the one I'm thinking of then it really is amazing, well worth the money.
There's also an Waterloo and Gettysburg companion by the same author, the former is magnificent the later less so.

I have it and it is great. It has a ton of information in it and I actually used it as a resource in a college class I took. The professor took the information down about it and went out and bought himself a copy too.

The book is blooming fantastic. While the coverage of Trafalgar is wonderful, the background information about 18th C. ships is even better -- lots of specific, detailed information on ship construction, organization, weapons and the battles leading up to Trafalgar.

I have the Trafalgar and Waterloo companions by Adkin, and they are both fantastic. Pricey, but well worth it.

Mine arrived by post this very morning. A cursory glance confirmed that this book is more than worth the money I spent on it, as the reading time alone will entertain me for many, many hours. I would use adjectives to describe this monster, but I can't think of any that would really do it justice. Suffice to say that it exceeds all my expectations, and has put one huge grin on my face.

If you're an Age of Sail or simply Napoleonic Naval fan, get it.

Like everybody else has said, it's worth every penny.

Mine arrived yesterday, only glanced through as I was busy but it looks the mutts knuts, certainly the Waterloo companion I have had for years and that's superb.

I only paid a little over the cost of two Osprey's (£21-75 including P&P) for 560 pages so I would describe it as an absolute bargain by comparison.
