I'm looking for some, not the dismounted division from the Ulm campaign, but dragoons fighting on foot from 1808 onwards.

The Perry French Dragoon box set will have 8 dismounted Dragoons, along with 13 mounted, covering 1812-1815. Not sure if that would work for you or not.

The Perrys have gone for a strange configuration with mixed foot and mounted dragoons (and six free casualties.) It is really nice that you can get dismounted dragoons to form units. Previously you had to do conversions to get such unusual figures. Now everyone will have them.

The set will be a very nice purchase for someone playing skirmish, like Sharpe practice. They are suitable for the peninsula, and many sharpes practice are set there.

I don't know how commercially successful this set will be. But the Perrys just please themselves, and fair play to them.

Redoubt do some but they're not great figures.

Can anyone tell me how did French dragoons' uniforms post 1812 differ from the earlier uniform worn, for example, in the Peninsular War from 1808? Neil's post suggests there wasn't much difference.

Post 1812 the lapels were closed rather than open at the bottom and the tails were shorter.

Essex makes 28MM Foot Dragoons also.

Hinchcliffe also has a dismounted dragoon firing his carbine. Nice figure, but the only one in the range.

I wonder how many people actually use dismounted French dragoons in their wargames. A lot of us talk about it, but…

Gray Ghost, are you looking for dragoons in gaiters as opposed to riding boots?

Duc de Limbourg19 Mar 2010 5:27 p.m. PST

Mostly the dragoons in the Peninsular would wear the old uniform, not the new, closed to the waist, one.
(But sorry, I'm a purist).

The old,1805, dismounted dragoons would wear the gaiters I suppose as they had to walk; the dismounted dragoons after that would wear riding boots.

Thanks for the dragoons info,Nigel and Duc. I think Victrix plan to bring out Dragoons in the pre-1812 uniform, so I'll wait.

I have some Eagle figs armed with muskets for a particular scenario for Sharp Practice…perhaps they could be converted to hold carbines?
