Are these guys still going? If so anyone have an idea where they can be found – preferably a URL. They don't turn up in a Google search….

Thanks in advance…

RLBPS carries the whole line

It is Raventhorpe (No 'S')

Currently email contact only:

RLBPS has them. I have been painting them on and off since 2003 and they can be excellent. I did see some from the Afrika Korps line that just were not their best work but most of the other stuff is painter friendly.

Is there a difference between Raventhorpe and Ready to Roll, or are they one and the same?

Hrothgar Berserk17 Mar 2010 8:37 p.m. PST

I think they are the same. RLBPS has both together

"It is Raventhorpe (No 'S')"

Aha! That will explain why I cant Google 'em! Many thanks.

I see that Chiltern stock em in the UK.

The Pz IV and StugIII look very nice.

Thanks for the replies gents.

So I give up. How are you supposed to see what these models look like? RLPBS has few I can find, and there does not seem to be a production company website to look at. Leap of faith?

historygamer….take a look back through the first couple of hundred Miniature Wargames magazines. Loads of lovely pictures of the Raventhorpe minis.
Articles by Colin Rumford or anyone else at the Grimsby club will be profusely illustarted with them.

They have always been a bit of a hidden treasure. Lovely models and some very unusual pieces.

I have some old mags, but they often mix models in with their lines, so it is hard to tell what is what. No offense, but it is an odd way to try to sell product, but unfortunately, not that uncommon in the wargaming world.

… and what's more, they're at really nice prices :-)

I have lots of them… some people don't like as they have a base built in, but I think that they're really great & for resin models, they have lots of detail (especially the recently released Daimler Armoured Car)

historygamer18 Mar 2010 7:21 p.m. PST

Correct me if I am wrong, but the older ones don't have bases on them. So, does the entire line have bases, or just the newer ones?

I also noted that Ready to Roll are true 1/72 scale. I first noticed this when I placed some Britannia models next to them and they looked tiny, as they are 1/76 scale. I prefer the 1/72 scale myself, so as to go with the outstanding model lines in that size.

So to recap then – Raventhorpe and Ready to Roll are one in the same, and there really aren't pictures of them on line anywhere. Someone let me know if this is wrong. Thanks.

So I just looked at RLPBS' webpage, and now I'm not so sure that Ravehtorpe and Ready to Roll as the same thing. One has stands, the other does not. They are listed separately too. I'm still confused.

Answers both questions – "ready to roll" and "photos"

Kind regards

Geoff

Hmm. The link was okay, but still not definitive. There was a separate link for Ready to Roll, which kind of took me back to the Raventhorpe stuff. If the same, why two separate links? Why not list them as Raventhorpe/Ready to Roll? Why not more pictures, and ones that are bigger too (the enlarge photos were the same size as the small ones). More mystery than answers. :-(

Oh, the reason I am cautious is that I recently bought some Britannia vehicles, but they were puny next to Ready to Roll or 1/72 models. Nice, but small (1/76th).

historygamer22 Mar 2010 5:19 p.m. PST

Okay, did some more snooping. They two do appear to be listed together, looking at the headers above. Some of the pictures are larger than others too. And, the ones shown have bases, like Ready to Roll does. So I am concluding then they are one and the same, but for some reason, have two names. And perhaps some have bases, and some don't. Guess that is as close as I'll get. Thanks for the link.

Don't think this will help, but…

"Raventhorpe models" are white metal kits usually consisting of just a few parts, therefore NO base. Some of the models are fairly rare and unusual subjects,e.g Daimler S O D and Canadian land mattress rockets, and all with a bit of extra detailing make into fine models-although some are better than others!
"Ready to Roll" are made by Raventhorpe(Colin Rumfold)they are mainly resin one/two piece models with a very few white metal pieces e.g heads/guns etc. Most(possibly all)have bases. They are good war gaming models although I do not like the bases as most of my forces are un based, and also the heads of figures are as Valiant (same Colin under a different hat)which I find similarly grotesque to Britania
