I have a bunch of Macedonian figures that I'm starting to get around to now. 25mm. Anyhow, what is a good color/paint scheme for painting them up?

The safest way to go would be red tunic with curiass edged in crimson. Brass helmet and shield. If your going for the Alexandrian Macedonian phalagite, you might want to check out Osprey publishings men-at-arms series "The army of Alexander the great".It uses Alexanders Sarcophagus as a primary source. It shows the phalangites in 4 different multicolored curiass's; 3 have very light purple top and shoulder straps and a cream/very light yellow bottom in different arrangement. The other has a red and yellow top and red shoulder straps and a cream/very light yellow bottom. The book goes on to say that most infrantry painted blue helmets, not all but most. File leaders are shown to have the same colors as the regulars but has silver greaves and white feathered helmets.Tunics are shown to be red but they could be any color, the macedonians tended to color code every different unit.Purple tunics being elite units. Red tunics were more common by the 3rd century BC but a figure painted on the Vergina, Bella Tumulus, Tomb 2; show a infrantry man with a blue tunic? It could be a painting of a phalangite, hypapist or one of Alexander body gaurd? check it out here: link and also here : link

Most any colors for tunic, shields bronze as are helmets.
Always questioned the Sarcophagus as a basis for color.
This was for public at large, painted in color for the "viewing" public. IMHO only. The higher ranks get brighter colors etc..Elite units more uniform in appearance.Shield designs
can or can not be added. Mine are bronze for three units,
one has copper and the fifth a metalic bronze. The Hypst
carrier a off yellow\gold tint and carry the STAR designs.
Looks good with the six units marching across the table.
Has put fear into many on other side of the table
