Following on the heels of the recent Broehuizen scenario, the 3rd Monmouths get another run out in this superb new scenario from Bry Barnard: PDF link This scenario follows the events of the Battle of Pavee/Sourdevalles, at the southern tip of Operation 'Bluecoat', in Normandy, August 1944. 11th Armoured Division formed a combined battlegroup from remnants of the Norfolks and Monmouths (unofficially titled the 'NorMons' Group), which was then ordered to hold high ground just south of the village of Pavee (a few miles to the east of the town of Vire). This position was then subjected to a very strong counter-attack from elements of 10. SS Panzer-Division 'Frundsberg', stiffened by Tigers from Schwere-SS-Panzer-Abteilung 102. Bry's uncle actually fought in this battle and considered it to be the hardest battle the 3rd Monmouths ever fought in WW2. |

Very nice; good use of Google Earth! I know that you know that it's *Loyd* Carrier, so I won't mention it. Allen |

Looks good Mark (as usual!) Would it be possible to re-do the PDF as the images have come out quite low resolution and are quite hard to make out? |

Allen, That would be my fault, as he's probably cut'n'pasted old charts of mine from the days before I knew better
That said, it's not our fault if Mr Lloyd didn't know how to spell his own name! ;o) I agree re Google Earth – a good choice in this instance, as that part of Normandy has changed very little since 1944 (which can't be said for a lot of battlefields in Normandy). These days I almost always use google Earth as a starting point for my own maps. Fred, Bry has made a 'full-fat' version available from another link. Jim the webmaster sadly has to cut the files down to the bare bones (to roughly 200k) in order to reduce bandwidth. I'll find that link for you, or you could simply go to the forum at fireandfury.com Cheers, Mark |

Thanks. I've saved the information to use with my newly painted up Valiant Brits and Germans. I will have to substitute Churchills for Shermans, however. What's a guy to do? |

Cheers Mark that full fat version is much clearer. |

I've since visited the battlefield and taken lots of photos of the ground, which has changed very little since 1944. I've therefore started another thread here: TMP link |
