Those tabs with the large X on them. Look at a few pictures in Cobra. That's not the only place I have seen them too. Both on mounted guns and guns on the ground. |

Wooot! I was afraid of that. If you mean the 37mm on the Sd.Kfz. 251/1, and presumably on normal PaK 36s (I don't see any in "Cobra"), that's a sheet-metal shield meant to keep the gunner clear of the breechblock, so that it doesn't smack the bejayzus out of him when recoiling.
