Here's a château, bombed out in the Great War: link link The original pictures are here
worldwaronecolorphotos.com
but I've put them on my Flickr thingy to preserve his bandwidth. I'm trying to recreate it as a terrain piece for Square Bashing but only being able to see two side of it is somewhat inconvenient! I'm not even convinced it's a castle. Does anybody have any information about this building? I've done all the obvious searches – for 'Napoleon's tree', 'Noyon', etc – but without any luck. |

It's the Chateau de Ham: link Follow the external link to the Ministry of Culture photos; the most interesting may be those of the model of the entire chateau: picture See also: link You might be able to obtain older images by contacting the group at this site: chateaudeham.chez.com Ah, this should be useful; the French Wiki page links to it, although the English one doesn't: chateaudeham.ifrance.com That should get you started--if on seeing the entire scope, it isn't too daunting!!! It appears to be much larger than I would have guessed from the photographs Ninjasaurus Rex posted (that first photograph is particularly striking). |

Yep. Even less left now. Allen |

Thanks, Allen. 'Ham' is the one search term I didn't think to use. Like Weaver, I thought the building was much smaller than it actually is. I don't think I'll be making the whole thing! I've already made an MDF frame but I can see now the proportions are way out. Oh, well. I guess it'll just have to be 'inspired by Château de Ham' now. Here's pix: link link I'll post the final thing when it's done. |

That's a good start! I suspect the whole thing would overwhelm your work table; sensible just to go with portion for a game. ALlen |

Looks promising. Please do post pictures of the finished product. |

Will do. It's about half finished already and I've been photographing each stage of construction. There are a lot of helpful photos at the Mémoires de la Somme website. Not sure if this direct link to my search results will work: link |

It's nearly finished now. It didn't take long and I finished the construction a while ago but had to leave it and get on with some real work. Today I've just blocked in the colours and now it's going on hiatus for a while again so I can get used to them before I carry on painting. This seems like as good a time as any to show the work so far. Linkage: link link link link I have pix of the various stages of construction that I could post if anybody is interested. |
