One of great parts about Leipzig is the battle of Möckern,
I'm doing the WHOLE battle in 6mm, but I want to do it again with 15mm and smaller tactical stuff. useing lasalle and carnage and glory.

I want to build the advance guard from Yorck's corps

I means I get to do 1 jeger, 2 grenadiers, infantry, reserve infantry and landwehr, the whole strada of prussian infantry.
In all 9 battalions
But I also have about 4 regiments of cav, hussars, uhlands, national cav(what ever that is) and landwehr cav.

So 9 battalions 4 cav regiments.
I'm on the other hand having problems finding the right french division to oppose them.
The french divsions had 14-16 battalions but no cav.
Now the diffrence in number of battalions might and I say MIGHT not be a problem as the french would be conscript infantry, while the prussians are all prety good.
But I need to add cav when in reality there wasn't that much french cav involved in the battle.
I realy don't think the french has a chance against 4 cav units when they have none.

Also some of the french would be from the marine regiment, but I don't know what they look like or if anybody makes them.

The "marines" are coastal artillerists (artillerie de la marine) and look pretty much like line foot artillery, with a slightly different shako plate. I think they also wore blue overcoats, which was a distinction usually reserved for the Imperial Guard.

I've seen the coastal artillerists shown wearing blue greatcoats with black belts plus a black shako cover. If so then any greatcoated figure with a shako cover would do.
I've always meant to do some, yet another distinctive French unit.

National Cavalry were volunteers who tended to wear hussar style uniforms. What regiment was it you were looking at?

Gunfreak16 Mar 2010 6:29 a.m. PST

East Prussian National Cavalry Regiment

This is the OOB I'm thinking of making for the prussians
---------------------------------------------------------
Jaegers: 1 composite battalion

Leib and West Prussian Grenadier Battalions: 2 battalions

East Prussian Infantry Regiment: 2 battalions

Reserve Infantry Regiment Nr. 12: 1 battalion

Landwehr Infantry: 3 battalions

1 Foot Battery

Leib Hussar Regiment Nr. 2: 1 squadron

Brandenburg Hussar Regiment: 2 squadrons

Brandenburg Uhlan Regiment: 4 squadrons

East Prussian National Cavalry Regiment: 4 squadrons

Silesian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment Nr. 5: 4 squadrons

1 Horse Battery

------------------------------------

I'll combine leib and brandenburg hussars into one regiment.
Which will give me 4 cav regiments

The french would be
-------------------------------------------
20th Infantry Division
Compans, GdD Jean-Dominique, Comte

Infantry Brigade
Pelleport, GdB Pierre, Baron

32nd Light Regiment: 2 battalions
Gheneser, Colonel Jean-Antoine

1st Marine Regiment: 5 battalions

Infantry Brigade
Joubert, GdB Joseph-Antoine-Rene, Baron

20th Provisional Line Regiment: 2 battalions

25th Provisional Line Regiment: 2 battalions

3rd Marine Regiment: 3 battalions

Artillery

2 – 6pdr Foot Artillery Batteries: 16 guns

-------------------------------------------------

So they got the same nunber of guns, but the french got 5 more battalions, while the prussian got 4 cav regimetns, and the french got none

The French VIth Corps had the 25th Lt. Cav. Br. attached, or portions of the III Cavalry Corps were attached to the VIth Corps in the Mockern sector.
So you could use portions of either for your cavalry.

Dear Gunfreak
Certainly an interesting list but you loose the flexibility of the Prussian Army. It was governed by the rule of three.

A third of the infantry were light infantry. When Jager and Freiwillige Jager were added this proportion increased.

The Grenadiers at this time were brigaded with the Guards. You could class the Leib Regiment as being superior. An Infantry Regiment would have two musketeer and one fusilier Bn. I have explained about the commanding of lines before. You may find that you do not have enough commanders is you consider the Prussian Brigade as a Brigade. It should be at divisional level.

These various concepts are explained in my two books on Prussian Infantry 1808-1840 with numerous OOBs.

Wasn't there a good discussion of French Marine artillery uniforms on this board already?

lebooge17 Mar 2010 5:14 a.m. PST

The marine artillerists wore dark blue greatcoats and the senior gunners had lots of red distinctions (epaulettes, pompoms, etc) and this resulted in them being mistaken for guardsmen a few times as I recall. There's details on their dress in the Osprey "Napoleon's Sea Soldiers".

This is a battle I have looked at several times and this is an OOB put together from several sources.

Normann

2nd Leib Chevauleger
4th Jager Konig

Artillery is missing from this for some reason!
Prussians had a 6pdr Foor Batt & Horse Batt with the Advanced Guard.
There would be 2 foot batteries with the French infantry division. The Wurttemburg Cavalry Brigade included a Horse Batt
