Hey all I was planning to make an Imperial Strike Force for a game I play ( Alien Squad Leader ) and started looking around for models to use. I was hoping that others have made this attempt previously and might have some guidance. So far I have decided the GZG New Isrealis would ( if painted up right ) make suitable stormtroopers, they even have the new NI speeder bikes. For Sith/Jedi I was thinking I can use 17th Century Warrior Monks w/ swords. They have robes and swords. easy peasy. Might be able to mod one for sith lord and apprentice. But after searching I couldn't any I really liked, or saw that could be easily modified. There were more lines to look over but no pics that I could find.I can't decide if the robed part, or the action pose makes them better for this purpose. Any one have any suggestions? GZG Colonial Security might make for good imperial officers. I think the other things I am looking for are a AT-ST style chicken walker, and a Probe Droid ( which I will likely have to scratch build ) . For the Rebel side GZG has figs that would be suited for Hoth or Endor battles, but nothing jusmped out at me for standard rebel troppers with the half-egg helmets. Although they do have a line of armed pilots that would work for x-pilots. Wargames Supply Dump has nice 20mm figs called Chumbonda Warriors that make excellent wookies they are just slightly taller than the 15's. I'm not sure what to do for vehicle support for the rebels however. Any suggestions? |

I made a Jedi out of a fantasy monk. Of course the lightsaber was my own work. picture |

Rebel Miniatures, Titan Marines and Tech Infiltrators. Kremlin Miniatures, Neo Samurai and Ninjas with some head swaps for Jedi. Critical Mass Games, human walker. |
graymatterblues | 14 Mar 2010 5:07 p.m. PST |
@ tabletopwarrior: Do you know who makes that mini Tabletopwarrior? Nice job with the lightsaber btw. I was thinking I would have to do something similar. @ Dragon Gunner: You are recommending Titan Marines and tech infiltrators for as stormtroopers? |
Dragon Gunner | 14 Mar 2010 5:24 p.m. PST |
Titan Marines as stormtroopers (Empire Strikes back) Tech Infiltrators as pilots |
graymatterblues | 14 Mar 2010 6:52 p.m. PST |
@ Dragon Gunner: Your absolutely right about the Titan Marines as Snowtroopers. That's a good find. For the Rebel Pilots I kind of like the look of the GZG NAC Riflemen. Although they might be okay as Tie Fighter Pilots as well. I looked at the Critical Walker. It would definitely work but its a bit chunky for my taste. Of course if thats the only real option well doesn't leave much choice. |

You might consider using some of our Human Cultists as not-Jedi/not-Sith. On sale from this week, as previewed on Dropship Horizon: picture Piotr @ Pole Bitwy |

does it have to be 15mm? The Micro machine line did HEAPS of 20mm minis and there are loads of vehicles that would fit. But if you must go ahead with 15mm here's my suggestions: Hasbro Titanium At st Hasbro Titanium At ap Old micro machines wookies (too small for 20mm) Old micro machines tauntaun riders Ertl AT AT thats all I can think of off hand I'll post if I think of any more |

I have bought so many 15mm but that might be a Mighty Armies now Rebel Mini figure. I think he had a sycthe or sickle. |
graymatterblues | 15 Mar 2010 1:28 p.m. PST |
@ Pole Bitwy PL: Yeah I actually tried to check out your website from a Dropship Horizon link and it appeared to be only greens and up coming stuff. It was also in Polish(?) which made things difficult for me being from America where we only learn one language. If you have a link to the translated website that would be very useful. @ Jhonpog: Do you know if the starfighters scale decently with the other titanium models (like the AT-ST). @ Tabletopwarrior: I looked at the Mighty Armies available through Rebel and couldn't see that fig. Thanks though. |

I would go with the old Micro Machines stuff, the infantry scales well enough for 15mm. – A |
graymatterblues | 15 Mar 2010 3:52 p.m. PST |
@ AronBC: I thought the Micro Machines stuff was closer to 20mm. Also, Do they even make Micro Machines anymore? That would probably be the best option of vehicles at least. It just seems a bit weird to have an all plastic force. Must just be the wargamer in me that wants the weight of metal. Ha! |
MaksimSmelchak | 15 Mar 2010 8:11 p.m. PST |
Hi Guys, The Micro Machines line was somewhere between 15mm and 20mm. And some figures were small enough to be small 15's, but the average figure could probably be called "18mm." Most of the newer Titanium toys are too small for that scale. I went 10mm with my Star Wars set. I used the old AMT / ERTL / MPC Battle of Hoth and Rebel Base diorama model kits combined with other peices comeing from: - Micro Machine toy vehicles - MWDA vehicles and infantry (Mechwarrior Dark Age) - Some odd 10mm sci-fi minis There are so many cool lines of 15mm figures these days, but nothing is spot on for stormtroopers unless it's froma line I haven't seen. And having decided against 15mm, I don't shop for those figures so there are plenty I haven't seen. However, my Traveller group in the Bay Area are largely 15mm mini nuts, and they have all kinds of cool goodies. With the right white and black paintjob, any space armored figure would pass for a Stormtrooper with a little imagination
The 10mm figures I mostly use for Stoprmtroopers were either snow troopers from the ERTL diorama kit or MWDA figures repainted with black and white paint jobs. Good luck with your collection, GMB! Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

hey graymatter blues yeah as Maksim said most are a better fit for 10mm (x wing y wing) or 20 (snowspeeder, swamp speeder) or bigger. The titanium skiff might work out ok. What's cool about the at ap is that it has a wee clone gunner on the top that could easily be removed and put on a bike or other vehicle. Oh yeah the republic fighter tank would fit really well I reckon in 15mm |
graymatterblues | 16 Mar 2010 1:16 p.m. PST |
@ Maksim & Jhonpog: Well the major issue is that I am making these for Alien Squad leader in which I have four other armies in 15mm. I have a Terminator army, a Stargate System Lord army, a Harkonnen army and a Gray Alien army. So these would be used in this system with these other armies. So I would like to use the same scale. So are you guys saying the Titanium AT-ST is to small for 15mm? and that the micro machines line is better suited to 20mm. I would be alright with the Titanium AT-ST if it was a bit undersized like scaling for say 12mm, than an over sized unit. I wish they had measurements for these online. I did some searching and found alot for sale but not measurements that I could use for scale. Also the Taun Taun riders intrigue me. It would be cool to make an army for each of the movie battles. An all Hoth rebel force would be pretty sweet. Probably not in the cards however. Anyone know where to get an x-wing-ish model that scales to 15mm, being that the Titanium line is to small. It doesn't have to be exactly it, but something close would be nice. Any suggestions on what type of models to use for the rebel force, something generic they might have used on Dantooine for example in 15mm? |

hey graymatter. IMO the titanium at st should be bang on for 15mm as would the ertl at at. the taun taun riders from micro machine are smaller in sale than the regular miniatures so should fit well if you can find them. I might have one I will have a look. The wookie figures are the same deal: too small for 18/20mm as for a x wing tie-in. I reckon the vintage die cast x wing would be close with titanium tie fighters? the x wing is small for 20mm so might be a good fit looking forward to seeing pics! |

Try the GZG 15mm OUDF. While they do not look exactly like troops featured in the movies, they look suitable for commandos or some in the expanded universe fiction. This guy used the 25mm versions for Star Wars Rebel troopers link |

Another vote for "Rebel MIniatures" for both sides. |

If you remember your Star Wars background, the Stormtroopers weren't the only military arm of the Empire. The loacalized army as well as dirtside and naval security could be represented very well by these guys link or their masked counterparts link |

Wow. Some really great suggestions so far guys. I think I will do the titanium line for the AT-ST, and the imperial shuttle. I'm stumped on what to use for rebel vehicles though. Maybe I can scratch build some land speeders (like the one Luke uses in New Hope) as Rebel Technicals. Throw in a captured speeder bike or two. I still need robed figures that would not be to hard to convert. Ones with maces, knives or swords would be preferred over pole arms (sorry Pole Bitwy I do like the figs though). I was thinking historical warrior monks, or arabs in robes but have found very few pics online. Any suggestions? I can't wait to start collecting and get this stuff mounted and painted so I can take pics (and pit the Imperials against my Terminator army). @ Jage111: Wow I really like your those models for rebel troopers I think that is the way i will go. @ Jhonpog: do you have a link for the older die cast x-wing that is 15-20mm you were mentioning above. Also for Wookies I found these which are nice. picture |
jhonpog | 24 Mar 2010 1:33 p.m. PST |
yep they would make great wookies the x wing is 120mm long link not the most accurate model but if you found some damaged ones you could scratch build some better detail link picture |

Cool so far things are coming right along. Anyone know of a not-Boba Fett in 15mm? |
jhonpog | 25 Mar 2010 2:08 p.m. PST |
well he's basically a helmet with overalls and a jetpack so I'd be inclined to convert something. Unless there's a toy out there with a little boba in it. The titanium series?? |

Anyone know of a not-Boba Fett in 15mm?
Yes, but the old Martian Metals Traveller Darrians have been OOP and moldless for 20+ years. |

Laser Burn (lots of choices) |
graymatterblues | 30 Mar 2010 6:07 p.m. PST |
So, I realized today that there were not-ewoks in production just last year by Green Eyed Minis. I think they were called Toleros. Now they are OOP!!! Noooo
. Anyone have any of the not-ewoks laying around they are not going to use, or know if so one has pick up that line for production? So I think I have come close to flushing out the list and it will include Imperial vs Rebel Army, Imperial vs Rebel Hoth Army, Imperial vs Rebel Endor Army. Once I get everything worked out I will post a list (or link to blog). @Dragon Gunner: cool I think I will look at that line and see if there is anything that can be done easily to convert him into a not-Fett. I have never done a conversion before so I couldn't so anything to complex (also means I don't have bits). |
