With the demise of Mongrel Miniatures, who is now left producing 28mm Scale Talibab Miniatures?

I know;
Eureka Miniatures : link
Do a small selection, including a figure with a stinger and a chinese multi rocket launcher

and there is
The Assault Group (TAG) : link
Who have a range of poses and sets, but I am not a major fan of the style, they look a little chunky and the heads remind me of greek ancients for some reason.

But does anyone else do any, or have plans to do some in the future?
I had intended to get a set of the mongrel ones, but looks like that range is now dead and gone, sadly. So hoping learned folks on here can point out some other makers.

Thanks.

Plenty of insurgents, civilians and regular troops at Stan Johansen Miniatures.

Brooks Miniatures are gone too, although Andy Copestake (Old Glory?) is supposed to be picking up the range.

Looks like Old Glory are indeed continueing with the Brooks Miniatures range, though it looks like they may only be doing some of them.

See here; link

I hope they will continue to expand them. They look quite nice.

I don't know, which part of have a look on google don't YOU understand.

I would appreciate it if you were asking for recommendations or a size comparison, but all you asked is who makes them. Well you obviously aren't that bothered or you would have looked yourself.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.

Goose66610 Mar 2010 4:04 p.m. PST

Buzzard, my dear amicable chap, I probably shouldn't bother replying to your post given its aggressive nature. But for your information, I have looked on google, indeed. I found the following results, mongrel still listing in cached listings. Eureka and TAG came up, but not Stan Johansen Miniatures or Empress at the time.

Given only three results and one which has ceased trading, I thought I would call upon the collective knowledge of those helpful folks on here, as generally gamers tend to be friendly folks and word of mouth is usually a good way to find the smaller scale manufacturers and suppliers.

I also thought that maybe there would be others members of TMP who like myself, might be also interested in the answers posted here.

Travellera's post was at least trying to contribute and assist, and to which I replied in jest, if you had noted. But you on the other hand just appear to be out to strop and argue.

And to conclude that I don't care about the answer, purely because I did not ask how people think they compared just made me laugh. The comparative suitability of miniature ranges is a personal opinion and many will argue one way or another, depending on which they like.

So really if you don't have anything further constructive to add to the topic, then just don't bother.

By the way, if anyone else knows of any more 28mm Taliban miniature ranges. Please do post some information. Many thanks.

If you can still get them, Devil Dog Design make a good set Al-Queda as opposed to Afghan Taliban if that is any help for variety?
And so do Black Scorpion; listed as Iraqi Militia
link

I have to add, googling for 28mm minis is really difficult; only a barest of hits come back; I use Google as a technical open source resource frequently on a daily basis for other purposes and there are plenty of tricks to tweaking the results for optimum hits but 28mm minis seem to have a Google "cloak" about them!!!!

Goose66611 Mar 2010 2:42 a.m. PST

Thanks Grey Ronin, it sadly seems that the Devil Dog Design range is another like Mongrel that has gone OOP and no one seems to have taken on the moulds. A club mate has a few, which were very nice indeed, I think they went out of business back around 2007-2008.

I have had a swift email reply from Andy at Old Glory about the former Brooks Miniatures Range;

"I've already added to the British range I have plans to add ANA troops as well as other stuff in the fullness.
Andy OGUK"

So that looks promising.

Don't wish to get side tracked on google issues, but totally agree with you there Grey Ronin.

Way to swing back Goose. But I suspect Buzzard was just having a bad day.

Just got my Empress stuff in the post and they are stunning figures. Really good sculpting and great poses. Happy days!

Lowtardog11 Mar 2010 5:39 p.m. PST

Yep I would second the Empress minis, they are a bit taller than Mongrel but have similar human proportions and the detail on the weapons is second to none. I would happily mix them with Mongrel and Eureka. Brookes also fit in well but perhaps a little more stout

I like TAG and am awaiting an order placed Feb 28th for Ultra Modern figures. My first time ordering direct from them and no response from two emails. What has been posted here in regard to personal taste is entirely true. As I said, I really like TAG. Picked some up at Historicon several years ago and just recently got around to painting them.

Not that it helps right now, but the sculpter of the DDD stuff, JC McDaniel, is supposedly working on some updated stuff. Something to keep an eye out for, anyway.

Dualer, use the "webmaster" email at the bottom of the page here; link

recon35, thats good to hear. I think some of the Devil Dog Design range were really nicely done.

I have to say, I haven't seen them in the flesh, but the Empress figures do look rather nice.

Good news. Mongrel Miniatures range may not be dead, as I feared. Apparently at the recent "Cold Wars" convention over in the US. Pontoonier Miniatures were selling some of their ranges. See here; TMP link

So.. fingers crossed they get another UK distributor soon. :)
