I was browsing The Guild forum yesterday and noticed in a few photos that Revell was displaying their OOP WWI German Infantry set at shows. So, I decided to have a look at their website today, and found this; 02504 German Infantry, WWI
The attack on France at the beginning of WW I by the German Army was soon brought to a standstill. From this time on, the fighting in the trenches determined the events on the Western front. In 1916, the German Army was equipped with the steel helmet which offered considerably more protection than the spiked helmet worn previously. Scale: 1:72 Release date: 03/2010 No. of parts: 56 incl. Figuren Number of figures: 50 link |

Did they ever do any early war? |

HaT do some lovely early war Germans and French, but no replacements for the geriatric Airfix WW1 British. |

HaT have posted preliminary masters of new BEF figures on their forum – they are on their way but not just yet |

Revell never did an early war, but Zvezda are going to be releasing early-war Germans and Russians. I've got a few thousand of the HAT early-war Germans, both the Jaeger and Regulars. |

Just in time for me. I discovered my Revell late war German, an excellent set, have all gone brittle! I have almost 1,200 of them and nearly all of them are too brittle to handle without having weapons and arms fall off. I am very unhappy about that. Until you get lead rot
hehehe. Never had mine go brittle, how did you have them stored? |

Brittle???? Now I'm scared -- I've got stuff that dates to the 70's. It all seems good. What causes these soft plastic figs to go brittle? mjc |

I think it's extreme heat during storage. I've some Airfix ancient British that are brittle. The friend I got them from had stored them in a garage in the Mojave Desert while on a West-Pac cruise. My Nappies are still soft. |

I have had Airfix, Esci, and Revell all go brittle. They were stored in my garage in Southern California, not really excessive heat here. My figures were stored in plastic food storage boxes, along with figures from Giant of Hong Kong and other companies that are as old or older and they did not get brittle. They have never been exposed to direct sunlight, and my garage where I store them has been converted to a room, so it is not all that cold or hot there, is it insulated and heated. From what I have read the brittleness is due a lack of plastisizers in the plastic. It is a manufacturing defect, in my opinion. High heat or extreme cold will speed up the process, but properly made figures don't dry out. Some of my figures are as much as 50 years old and are not brittle and were stored in the same conditions as these Revell and other brittle figures. Since these figures came out in 1990 then they are at most 20 years old. Mike "Bunkermeister" Creek bunkermeister.blogspot.com |

Definitely a weird thing – I have some old Airfix cuirassiers – of which about 20% are brittle. But no issues with any other figures, and my "modern" collection (up to 15 years' old) show no such signs. But, compared to metal, as they are about 8p a figure, if I lose a few it is no big deal. |

I've never had any figures go brittle, and some of them are over 40 years old. It depends how you store them. One of my pals gave me a bag of rotted figures for comparison (identical ranges – Arfix paras, commandos etc) and htey just crumble under your fingers. They werw stored in a garage for years. My guys live in their storage boxes in the house. |

Will they also release the French ? IIRC they were much rarer than the Germans. Some of my Hat Republican romans have gone very brittle. |

hi I first triplane games used, for my part, old IPMS entries that I had built in the mid 60s. None have gone brittle on me. I do have a problem with newer builds using CA having the CA debond. I wonder at what the variables are. Rocky |
