I understand that the bag on the back of the bearskin worn by Austrian grenadiers was in the facing colour. Is this correct and was the bag trimmed or edged in any way? Thanks Stephen |

Thanks for that A Twiningham. Just what I was looking for. Now I just have to see if I can paint that in 15mm. |

In about 1801 the cloth bags should be generaly yellow and white – regardless of what facing colour, it would take years however to implement this. |

Hi von Winterfeldt, Do you mean that they were yellow and white in 1801 and were gradually changed to the facing colour or that they were originally in the facing colour and changed to yellow and white after 1801? |

As I recall, the change was to yellow and white for all grenadiers – previously the grenadier bearskins were in the facing colour and white – I also recall it took a llllooonnngg time to implement (like most uniform changes) |

Thanks Frederick, I think I'll take it that my guys haven't got round to implementing the regulations then. With Austrians you need all the colour you can get. |

Moi aussi, my friends – all that white can be too much to bear! |

I like your Austrians Archiduc Charles. They make a fine looking army with all their banners waving. |
