I'm looking to either convert or substitute some minis for Horus Heresy period Sisters of Silence and Imperial Custodes. Any recommendations for conversions or models that can be substituted? picture picture picture picture picture picture |

After a little searching, heres what I came up with. For the Sisters, the head is 1 from the Dark Eldar sprue. I'm not sure about the mask/re-breater, but I think that is too. The bodies appear to be female Dark Eldar as wel.. The legs/boots, I believe, are from plastic Warhammer Empire great swordsmen. So far, these are not sounding as hard as I thought, except the head conversion could be a little tricky with little room for error. For the Custodes, I pretty stumped. Most of the bodies appear to be basic marine parts, but the thigh armor and helmets have me stumped! Cant quite figure out the backpacks either, though I beleive they are from one of the marine heroes. Thanks for any input! |

The heads are from High Elves – probably Silver Helm knights. The thigh armour is probably made from plasticard, and the backpacks are from the Space Marine Commander box. That's for the first pic. The next two are sculpted from scratch. The second pic looks like the work of Scibor Miniatures. The neck armour on the Sisters of Silence could be made from Bretonnian helms, but it could also be sculpted from scratch. |

There were lot more work done on Custodes than appear There were "How to make" article on GW page once. |

Didn't they make a Custodes model back in the day? |

The Custodes have always been conversions. White Dwarf #300 has an article on various methods for converting them. |

Back when 40K was new, there was a Custodes figure made, although it wasn't labelled as such. If you can find one of the GW catalogs from like '88 or '89, you can see it in there. By today's standards, it would be like a child dressed in daddy's armor

What armour? I had one of these, and they were sculpted to look bare-chested with a cape ane soft pants
I prefer it current version from the Horus Heresy artwork

The helms of some of the pictures were High Elf Silver Helms heads – the second picture is one of the custom sculpts from Scibor – who does some wickedly good sculpts. |

"White Dwarf #300 has an article on various methods for converting them." Thanks for the input. I'll have to locate that one! |

The Sisters should have lopped off the top-knot and reapplied them to a female head rather than using the straight male heads. Female heads could be ordered from here: link link |

Augustus has it right – the topknotted DE head is a man! I think it's a pretty lousy representation of the Blanche artwork. I mean, it might be the closest you used to be able to get if you insisted on sticking to GW bits, but there must be something closer from another mfr – or even on the newer Daemonette sprue? Perhaps Escher figures from Necromunda could be used? FWIW the legs also appear to be based on Dark Eldar legs (you can see the ribbed armour plates on the thighs, and crappy hackwork where the spikes have been butchered away from the calves). |

Long over due update. I never did find bodies or heads I liked for the Sisters. This site has suitable pieces for Custodes however. I'll probably knock up about 10: abroadwitherica.blogspot.it |
